Default School me on tvs.

I am looking at this tv. I can get it on sale from my local @#$%^ for $499. Is it a good deal? What is the difference between plasma and lcd? Thankx.

main drawback to plasma is that it only lasts for about 7-8 years, then the plasma goes bad; of which you can't fix it. The one your looking at is only a 720 P, which means 720 pixles per inch, it's ok, but if your paying multiple hundereds of dollars for a new tv, you should get one with a great picture. I'd go with a 1080p or a 1080i; I'm not sure what the i stands for but I know that it has the best pictures quality. You can usually find a good 46/48/50" lcd 1080p for like $800-$1200 retail. But if you wait till they go on sale then they really reduce them, I passed up a 50" 1080p for $799, and it was a good brand; Symphonic

I agree.... You want 1080p in a tv that size and I also recommend LCD or LED.

Ok thanks guys. It was just a good deal. It is a floor model but it is sold as new and has a 3 year warranty all for $499. And it is better than my 36 inch hd tv i have now.

Word of advice, don't listen to the guy who doesn't know what the "i" stands for, and recommends interlaced over progressive scan. In almost every situation, progressive scan looks better.

don't waste your money for a 1080p unless you're close enough to tell a difference.

X2

I have two 50" TV's. One is 720 and one is 1080.
Everyone has said the 720 looks better.

What would be "close enough"?

Really? Because my 32" 720p looks better than my fathers 40" 720p. From what I have read I thought that 32-37" was the max you wanted with 720p?

FYI LED is LCD. The only difference is how it is lit. I would not pop for the extra $$ unless you really want an LED TV. Wait till the hype goes away.

Sounds like you got a good deal. $499 for a 50" is a good price.

x2 on not listening to someone who doesn't know theirs a difference between "i" and "p" You'll be happy with your purchase.
