need help/advice/info.......

I have a dinosaur SLR. It died, I guess. I was on the 2nd roll of film on new batteries and while I was taking pictures at a play bog, the shutter started staying closed longer..and longer.........and finally just shut and did not open back up. No battery warning light. So for part one: any one got any ideas or guesses on this? One person said I may have a broken mirror which will cost more to replace then a new camera body.
For part two: I'm wondering about a DSLR that could use my lens'. Is there any such thing? Or will I have to get new lens'? It just sucks because money is so short and I HATE being without a camera.
So if anyone has any ideas..........

The camera is a pentax XZ50. Both lens' are sigma. Not exactly top of the line equipment I realize~but 10 years (about) ago when I bought the camera body, both lens', a few filters, bag, and tripod...I ended up with around $1000 in it. I'm aware that, yes, I probably got my money's worth and it's old, and not the best name (also not the worse) But bottom line is..it's the camera I learned on, so I'm attatched, and also the money issue. Ten years ago I could spend $1000 on camera equipment with just a little thought. Now days I can't. So any info would be helpfull.

Do some searching to see if the older Pentax gear will fit the new dSLR. If they are anything like Canon and Nikon the old lenses will mount on the new digital bodies. Depending on the class of lens (at least with Nikon anyways) different features will be usable on the new bodies.

Basically the older the lens the less options are available due to the lack of electronics on the lens itself. You can mount some OLD lenses on Nikon, however they are manual focus and aperture only.

It looks like Pentax has been using the same lens mount for a long time, you just need to figure out if the lenses you have will be fully functional (auto focus, etc.) on whatever digital camera body you are looking at.

I have an old Ricoh 35mm which used the same Pentax K-mount.
