I’ve been putting this together for a about a year now, and figured i'd put it up here for some reviews... I didn't take any before pics, just you average XJ, also not to many during pics either... anyway here are a few pics in no special order
SPECS: 00 XJ, 4.0 AW4, 242, HP 44 & 9" 3.50 gears, 37/12.50/15 IROCs & 39 bolt beadlocks, ACOS and stock TJ coils, bastard dakota-xj leafs... about 5"
how did you link it i see the ford radius arm mounts on the axle are you running a stock mount or are you running a jonny joint
and what rear disc setup did you use?
either way looks great i have the same build on mine except its a 01 with 36s and a bit more lift
i'm not too happy with my mounts at this point (but they work, so they will stay for awhile) just factory bushing on a homebrew cross member (it came with the axles) i have some jonny joints for them, i just haven't made a new cross member
the brakes are some dodge rotors (i had to turn down the axle flange so the rotor would fit over them) chevy calipers, and factory chevy caliper mount (from dana 44) cut all to hell and welded on the back side of the axle flange

getting closer to being done... well getting closer anyway, it will never be done
just need to finish adding a little bump stop, bolting on the skids, and my temporary rear recovery point... then take it for a test spin to see what else i need to do before leaving thurs
getting ready to install 4.56 gears, and a new 31 spline full spool in the rear (as the 28 spline shaft didn’t fair so well at the badlands), also a detroit true-trac up font... do any of you have any experience with the true-trac? i don't think i want a full locker in the front with stock shafts and 37's, so with the true-trac i feel it would be safer... any thoughts
my spool
true-trac
my broken shaft (yes it hurt, but it is healing nicely)
no advice on the tru-trac yet but my 44 has one in it and will be going under my xj with 36-37" tires and 5.13's but no first hand experience but i think you are thinking right about not wanting a full locker up front
I have one in my jeep and it is awesome for turning awesome for mud and trails
It's basically awesome until you lift a tire or are hard in the rocks
It is what it is which is a posi. I know of a few people that run them with automatics(I run a manual) and they like them more but they can apply some brake pressure to help it lock up but I don't have 3 feet
They are practically indestructible and should help your stock shafts live though
I would definitely recommend some spicer joints too if you aren't already running them
no real wheeling experience just 1 bog and playing in my yard, so far i like it big diff from open. but iv got a welded rear also but it walks up what ever i point it at
I myself just did to rec tube rockers. They are welded all the way around and then tie into the leaf spring mounts and once I get my plating on. They will tie into the unibody with 2x2x .250 square tube just under the A and B pillar. Once it was welded up to the point we got it now, we wrer able to jack the xj by the hoist with no problem. Overkill is in order though, so extra bracing is a must imo.
