Over the Counter Drugs Excluded from HRA/HSA/FSA

Senate Bill: Beginning in 2011, the costs for over-the-counter drugs not prescribed by a doctor will no longer be eligible for tax-free reimbursement through an HRA, FSA or HSA.

Are you serious? I'm being responsible, keeping my money out of the hands of the "EVIL" insurance companies and I'm now going to be punished? Seriously!? Let me have my tax free contribution and GTFO of my life.

They should be doing the exact opposite and rewarding people for doing this. It Encourages good spending....Oh wait....That's right, Our country doesn't like to push that because they can't do it very well.

Paying cash at the doctors office was fun... it's obvious it doesn't happen much. No more of that! Plus now I will have to see a doctor so they can prescribe aspirin, so I can buy it tax free.

I was quite proud of myself two years ago when I found this little "tax shelter".

If you think about it, be happy we have any HSA left whatsoever. Limiting it to $2500 a year (if they mean to do so with HSA's) and denying us the benefit of buying OTC drugs isn't too bad.

I'm just happy to have another spot to snick money away tax-free for the time being.
