Default 2000 chevy s10 blazer 4x4 2dr questions

Hi guys i picked up my first Chevrolet product. I own a 89 Cherokee that i do alot of wheeling at bundy with and was going to see how this blazer handled stock. If it was decent i'd like to invest some money into making it more capable offroad like my jeep but a comfort to dd. My Cherokee with 4,5rough country lift and aggressive 31s isnt comfort on the streets.

My first questions is whether i have a 700r4 transmission or a 4l60E?...and if its a 4l60e is it the same tranny that that my z71 has.(it is also a 4l60E) the difference is one is behind a vortec 4.3 v6 and the other is a 350 v8.

My second question is what axle is under the rear..its a 5lug with disk brakes.

Thanks

Josh

It is a 4L60e. A lot of Vortec 350 swaps run the stock 4L60e transmission.

The rear axle is the GM 10 bolt I think it is the 8 1/2 but could be 7 5/8 , possibly depending on the options it may have a Eaton G80 in it.

It won't be as good offroad stock as your Cherokee is now.

Check the glove box for the G80 code to see if it has the limited slip from the factory. If its not a ZR2 model its probably not a G80 though. With IFS lift kits will cost more but these are nice little trucks. Good power and dependable.

G80 still came in a lot of reg 4x4's

Most likely you have the 7.? rear end, but some non ZR2's did get the 8.5 too.

They do ok, but the front ends are kinda weak.

If you crank your T-bars dont go over 1.5" or you are asking for issues.

Cheapest way to get some bigger meats on it would be to get a 2" body lift(200.00) Some 2" shackles(60.00) Up to 1.5" T-bar crank(cost of an aligiment) Then fit a nice 31" tire in there.

Stock rims will help avoid more rubbing too.

For some odd reason most Bravada's came with the G80 locker while the S10 blazers did not. My wife has one in her Bravada with no tow package while my friends Blazer even though it is equipped with the tow package has an open diff...makes no friggin sense to me? Anywho if you have an open diff you can snag a rear end out of a Bravada and it will be a direct replacement with disk brakes on top of it...don't know how that would come into play though with your proportion valve and abs computer though if you currently have drums?

PS: The way you find out if you have the G80 locker is look in the glove box, there will be an RPO code sticker in there, look for the code G80, if it is on the sticker you have a locking diff, if it's not there you do not.

The G80 was an option in all the s-series trucks. It was standard in the ZR2s.

Yes it was an option but I think it was standard equipment on the 2nd gen Bravada's as well...I have not seen one with out it. It use to be standard when ordering the tow package but I guess that's not the case anymore? I very rarely see a regular S10 equipped with the G80.

Another thing to consider is all tires are diff.

A 31" will range from 29.5-32"

That is weird because ZR2's would rub like that and they have 31x10.50 stock.

You have 3.73 gears and a locking rear differential.

i would think the fender flairs would be a big give away if its a Z.

im not sure but i think my stock 4dr blazer has about 30 inch tires. ive got 3.73gearing and the limited slip diff.
i thought they had an optional LSD and no locker was available? isnt the G80 a LSD?

i just did some searching and found out that the new Camaros use the same G80 code for their LSD and the new silverados use the G80 code for the locking diff.

is everybody here sure that the S10 blazers came with a locker?
i believe they were only available with a LSD, despite the code being the same as the full size trucks that do have a locker.
