hmm you have a good point. if you polish a turd it's still a turd. if you make a POS car pretty. it's still a POS. most average people don't know what to look for when buying a used car so they are dazzled by how clean it is but it could have a junkyard engine, or a beat up front end and never know it.

Troof. Once had to pull the rear bumper off a Saturn Outlook (pita #1). (pita #2) Open the hatch to find it crammed with toddler toys, contracting equiptment and nails / screws falling from every crevice of the back as soon as you opened it. (pita #3) Smelled like multiple diapers had been baking inside since it was 85ish that day. Needless to say, all the windows had to be dropped down if you had to move it.

I understand that, but if you were going to sell it wouldn't you spend that 3 hours first before posting it??

Those pictures FAIL (although good shots) but that is expected from you.

Also you dont really want to sell it.

The photos are the whole reason I didnt buy it. Not Realy

Also you could just raise the price.....many have done it here.

i took a s10 out for a test drive a couple years back. had pennie's corroded to each other in the cup holders, empty beer cans in the back seat and roaches in the ash tray. needless to say i turn around right quick and returned the vehicle. my buddy details cars and has found vibs and all kind of gross shit in vehicles.

The worst I have worked on was a G van where you have to pull the dog house and crawl under the steering wheel to work on the engine. it had dirty diapers rotten food and god knows what else piled between the seats and dash. it was so gross I made the service writer clean it before I would touch it.

I usually do a great deal of cleanup when I'm selling something, but sometimes a turd is a turd and you are selling it as such. A girl I worked with a few years ago gave me her 96 Sunfire that had died. I spent 15 minutes trying to get it to at least fire, then put it on C-list for $200 as a project/parts car. First guy that came out bought it no haggling, even with a back seat and trunk full of the usual chick trash. There was no way I was spending any time on that car.

I just sold my Jeep to the first guy who actually came out to look at it. I told him I was sorry I didn't vacuum some of the carpet out (it was still clean though, no trash or anything) but he said he didn't care, it's a Jeep. I told him true but I still have it usually clean.

i recently sold a $1200 car for $1200 within 24 hours of posting my ad to the first person that looked at it. all i did was throw out the trash and vacuum it out, nothing else. i figured someone would be buying it for a "go to work" car (older Park Avenue), instead a black guy from a city about an hour away bought it to replace his car that was stolen. i could tell he really liked the car as he drove it away and i felt like crap because i hadn't taken the time to detail it up like i would've a nicer car.

i know i'll be spending some time cleaning the next "beater" i sell because even though it might be below my standards for a nice car it might be all someone can afford and it should be as nice as i can make it for them.

Bought 91 F250 XL for cheap.

inside cab is full of garbage and something that look dirt but too fine to be dirt.
It fill 55 gal of garbage from cab. Owner of company came to look and was very ashamed to see how filthy their truck was.

Then long bed was full of wood it fill to top of bed plus tons of smokes butts, candy bars, meals from fast food sit inside wood, and shit bag inside.

that's weird, the same thing just happened to me. I put my car up for sale and took out all my books/junk. Some white lady came and bought it to replace her junky old festiva.

You'd think he could at least put all 4 wheels on it for the picture.

When I bought my recent truck i emptied the truck of all of this guys crap, and i filled a pretty large garbage can full of his random junk. Which included a dirty picture of his ex-girlfriend I also had to clean the blood off the dash from the accident he got into (Reason I bought the truck). But i got a 2003 F150 for only $800 so i'm not complaining. Sometimes it's good that people don't clean their cars because then i can buy them cheaper and sell them for more by cleaning them up.

When I worked at Suburban Ford dealership I had someone trade in a car and not bother to clean out their mountain of Monster cans. The floor was full up to the middle of the passenger seat. It smelled nasty

At $1200 I wouldn't expect much more. I'd expect there to be rust and some rattles coming from the suspension. Polishing a car to the point where the interior looks better than the exterior is just stupid. If you were selling it for 5K or above I'd expect it to be nice, or I would try to jew you down and not feel bad about it.
