Default Schools get creative, asshole do their best to stop it...

Advertising on school busses!?

Never thought of it, but if the advertising is not for "bad things" , i.e. tobacco/booze/twinkies/feminine hygiene, why would anybody oppose schools generating MUCH needed revenue?

I don't know if it is still like this, however when and where I grew up, highschool sports were the first thing affected by budget issues, and it was the girls' teams that would suffer first.

I see no problem.

I would go a step further and suggest CONDOM ads and SAFE SEX ads on buses so it is subliminally put in their heads to practice safe sex. (okay, maybe that is not really a good idea, but kids will fornicate and if they get a strange desire to wear protection during the "fun", I say it is a good thing)

Seriously, what are others' opinions on this? I don't see a reason not to, but that doesn't make it right, of course.

The only argument I can think of is that it covers up the bright yellow buss, making it more likely to get into an accident?

I don't have a problem with it. Especially if the ads are one the outside of the bus, wouldn't that be targeting more the other people on the road, not the people in the bus?

I don't see anything wrong with it but you could get into a whole can of worms with what's appropriate/Not Appropriate. Then there is the Uniformity thing. It's pretty important in the school transportation realm. Then you have to think about allowing the advertising company access to all the buses.

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as they were all appropriate.

Unfortunately, It's illegal (or at least very looked down on) by the MSP to have any thing on the outside of the bus except what you see every day. The Bus garage here in Okemos wanted to put Bumper stickers that said "78 more reasons to not drink and drive", They got shot down. Legally speaking they are a Traffic Controlling device so Uniformity probably has to be kept. That's actually why they are all yellow, Because traffic Signals and other Traffic signs have to be yellow.

It's also a great idea though! Okemos Prides itself in trying to make more money instead of firing people. Our Garage hosts another school districts buses as far as Repairs/Maintance goes. That's a good chunk of change right there. They can't legally charge money to give rides for anybody though. Even special Events. Our Food service is also "contracted" out to a couple different schools and they actually make a very large amount of money. Even with the attempt of making money, they still are facing cutbacks, but not as many as other school districts. One thing that also helps is they have not Privatized any of the services yet. Believe it or not, That actually is more expensive in the long run and usually less personal.

See, I don't think it should be something like that. If Kids aren't allowed to have inappropriate T-shirts on then the school buses shouldn't have inappropriate adds. In alot of Districts the Advertisers would be very limited in their choices as to what they are allowed to advertise. Don't expect this to happen in MI. As I said before, The MSP is very clear on how they want School buses to look. You may not think that they have a big say, but they do. They are the ones that give out the right to Transport Pupils.

When I was a kid growing up in Detroit in the early `70's they had the DSR buses that had adds on them for school buses. they just banged a George Ford #3 in the window and off we went. don't know it changed when they went to ETC, but it was norm back in the day.

Somebody needs to explain that to the School board here(Woodhaven-Brownstown)looks like they about to privatize ALL non-teaching staff, incluing MY JOB!I've been here 13 years, was looking forward to retiring in 12 more.If this happens,I'll be out of work&have to start all over again at age 51.Right now,I live 1 1/2 miles from here, been riding mopeds to work on good days.I graduated from here&have lived in this community my whole life! I am one of the mechanics here,so this is a decent gig. With all the dealerships that closed last year, where would I find work?

That sucks man. Our School district is fortunate enough to have a majority of the school board against privatizing, at least, our transportation. It is such a Popular idea though that it comes up at just about every board meeting. "Hey, why don't we privatize?" Even with our board members the way they are there is talk about it. We wouldn't loose our jobs, we would just be working for a different company with less pay and Crappier Benefits.

I personally would prefere my daughters ride on a bus that is bright yellow and not cluttered up with ads. I'm looking at it from a safety standpoint.

X1,000 As it is people blow by the buses while they are loading kids. About 5 years ago my son would have been hit if my wife hadn't noticed the car not stopping and pulled him back. Just the other day a lady passed the bus with the red lights flashing. Making them a rolling billboard will not make things any safer.

It is bad enough we are bombarded with ads from everywhere, now you want school busses covered in ads? Its a slippery slope and if successful monetarily it will be hard for the powers in control to resist going to the next level, for they really need the money, right? so that makes doing anything to get it ok, right?

We as Americans should have more pride in our country and our public property than to plaster it with ads. How did we get so desperate that this is even being considered?? Sorry to those effected, but if the government is going to live paycheck to paycheck then it has to cut back when the paychecks get reduced. We pay more in taxes than ever, both directly with things like income and sales tax and indirectly with the goods we buy (who do you think pays business taxes, yes the consumer does). Rather than whoring out public property, why not ask where has all the tax money gone and why so much more is needed?

I think they should just stop teaching kids stupid shit like how to make pottery or how to play the clarinet and replace the desks with factory machinery. it would generate profit, teach the kids a important skill set and would put those lazy union fukc teachers out on the street where they belong.
