Default Toyota "pedal issue" a giant hoax?

As more information is being released on these drivers who had "sudden acceleration", it is starting to paint a picture of the drivers. An abnormally high amount of these people had diabetes, a MUCH higher % of sticky pedals happened with old people then the average age of toyota owners, and people are now starting to investigate the younger people who had issues, and they're immediately being shown to be a huge fraud.

Check this guy out. Jalopnik found some GREAT information on his insurance fraud past, plus he was 6 months behind on his payment, and somehow his gas pedal STUCK!! OMG OMG OMG OMG!

http://jalopnik.com/5491101/did-bank...d-acceleration

I'm not saying my theory is proper, but I'm wondering if this will just end up being driver error, insurance con artist, and the like as opposed to a real problem with the cars.

I really don't see why this happening to anyone is worthy of making the news. He claims his pedal stuck, he drove down the highway at a whopping 90 miles an hour for a while, and then he stopped. Woopty-fucking-doo.

I'd say he's getting just what he wanted.... a lot of attention from a bullshit story.

It's just like all the women that came forward for Tiger and all those molested that came forward for all the priests. Were alot legit? Sure, but there were and always will be those dipshits that try to take advantage of the situation or be in the lime light for 5 seconds. Whether it's positive or negative attention.

I find it interesting that 2 Prius owners had a problem a day apart. As much as I'd like to see Toyoda fail, I'm sure there's some scum bags out there running a scam.

x2.

The first guy said he smelled the brakes. If the brakes were fully applied, there is no way the engine would overpower the brakes.

Only way that could happen is if the brakes weren't fully applying all the way, and just dragging some.

Unless brake fade got involved maybe... some people do not know how to properly use brakes.

i am a lifelong diabetic and fail to see how that is going to cause uncontrolled accelleration. white outs from hypoglycemia, sure. passing out from hyperglycemia, sure. foot pressing down on the gas, nope.

Evidently diabetics tend to have appendages go numb. I'm just saying what I read.

It has nothing to do with the gas pedals, sounds more like a computer glitch that makes the cruise control go WOT.

But wasn't the recall to fix floor mats that supposedly get stuck over the gas pedal?

I do think that a lot of it probably is people who are looking for attention. Its a great time to buy a toyota, I wish I was in the market for one.

yes, most often neuropathy in the legs. someone with that condition that was diagnosed by a physician would be restricted from driving. hand controls would be more appropriate. but it isn't going to happen out of the blue where it suddenly goes numb. if the patient was having cronic numbness due to overly high b.g. levels or ha1c tests were consistantly out of control the would pose a pass out or coma risk and should have been restricted from driving.

With a tip from a commenter at TTAC, we discovered Sikes owned and operated a web site called AdultSwingLife.com. Interesting. There's also a report from KTLX with a neighbor stating he may have been involved in the porn industry.
Well that seals the deal right there. He may have been a dirty swinging porno producer. He is obviously a liar.
