Keep the DRW and go with M/T tires .

Only thing I'm not certain of is if it has the dual-mass flywheel or not. In the older PSD's, the DMFW would get loose and noisy - not long after that, it would grenade and take the transmission out with it.

If it has a DMFW, a single-mass flywheel and clutch kit from south bend clutch is the best reliable answer. Also - it may be a way to get them to come down on the price...

Where is the best place to find CTD's used?
There's one for sale in the classifieds in a wrecked ram for around $4500.

I have a 2003 GMC 2500Hd with the duramax and I think it's great. It has 255,000 and it runs and drives like new. I just put an exhuast and a tuner on it and that thing is bad ass now. It made a night and day difference. The truck has a great ride and is the quietest diesel vehicle I have ever been in.

Looking like I might be able to get it for $5000 or less, I figure it needs about $1000 of parts and paint and a week or two of my time. KBB says trade in is about $11,000 so there will be room if it ends up needing something. I am going back to look at it and get it running and go from there and make him an offer on it.

Yes, I want a manual for that reason and the one Powerstroke I am looking at has the manual.

What is the cost of rebuilding a diesel trans and getting it beefed up?

I call bullshit.

Anyway, the trans on the 2003.5 and older PSD's are shit, I will admit even though I'm a die-hard ford fan. The 6.0L is shit, but you can't get a better stock transmission than the Ford Torqshifts that came on the '03.5 and up.

The IDI's dont have too many horses, but they will pull like no other. Reguardless of brand, I still wonder why people are worried about mileage when they look at full size trucks. I'm more interested in power, reliability, and towing/hauling capabilities...

Bottom line: if you want a good price, outstanding reliability, good mileage, decent towing power, and it's gotta be diesel, look for a nice 7.3 IDI or 12v Cummins.

Ok so at this point the Duramax is no longer available so the 2000 Powerstroke might be what I end up with. It is a manual so the trans should not be an issue, what should I be looking out for if I want to buy it? It has 135,000 miles on it and it is a dually.

What programmer should I get for it?

don't do it....to high of price for a 6.0 liter.they are going for less money then the 7.3.look into a 96 or 97 ford obs.or a 99 to 01 they had forged rods in them.i think they changed in 02.i am searching hard for one.they can be had in a manual f350 for around 10. the 96,97 250 had the ttb front but a 60 swap is real easy.i am looking for the 96, 97 quad cab short box diesel in a stick.then i will put a 60 in the front..the one i got from you firehawk will bolt right in.
that dually is a good deal you were looking at.low miles and a stick.
