Default Nice Huh

President Obama has proposed a 1.4% pay increase for active duty military in 2011. This is THE LOWEST SINCE 1973! Nice to know that during a time of rampant inflation, while war is fought in 2 theatres, our men and women in uniform get A LOWER PAY INCREASE THAN WELFARE RECIPIENTS!!! Please if you support our troops!

while I support our troops as they lay their lives on the line - many folks that are sitting back here in the States are facing unemployment benefits that are expiring, are underemployed, and/or taking massive cuts just to tenuously hang onto a job.

<-- took a mild pay cut to come to this job 2½ years ago, and now am looking at another 15% pay cut in terms of slashed benefits and unpaid work days this coming year ...

on another note, it can easily be argued that we are not quite yet into "rampant inflation" - in fact with respect to many durable goods and housing we are still pretty much deflationary. Energy prices have of course shot up, but I can't help but wonder how/why someone in active duty military would worry about the price of energy...

Where do you live that you have "rampant inflation"?

I'd sure like to see this "rampant inflation" myself.

I have plenty of things that I dislike about Barry, but this is not one of them. No one is getting raises. There is no 'rampant inflation".

The inflation is not here yet as elsewhere but if things continue to go the way they are it will happen.

Sure, and if it rains tonight, and then things keep going like that for a year, then we will all drown.

But ifs don't count.

I am unsure about this...

My idea of getting my head taken off means my boss yelled at me. For the men and women on the front lines it means they literally may have their head blown off.

I would like to see them earn more...

It's absolutely outrageous that ANYONE working for the federal government should receive a pay increase at a time when there are record deficits.

In case you haven't noticed homes cost about half of what they did a few years ago. Is this what you meant by "inflation"?

I'd love to see our military people getting big raises, but as someone who has seen my income reduced by about 25% in the past year I have a tough time feeling sorry for anyone that thinks that thier increase was not big enough.

This is a two way street and for many people out here it will hit a hard spot for them. Mostly because your talking about money! And all though they are putting their lives on the line and I am willing to bet that everyone in here is VERY thankful for that. IT IS WHAT THEY SIGNED UP FOR. That is part of the deal when you join the military. An increase is still an increase and it is 5times more than what a lot of people here are seeing so I would say good for them! (The military) Atleast they got an increase and not a decrease like us.

If you dont like your current situation then stop your plsslng & moaning and join the Army. You stand behind that rifle and suck it up in Iracastan while your family back home without you there for the third deployment in the last 8 years.
Oh hellyes 1.4% is WAY to much. Assclown

Nice selective quote. You left out this part:

Quote:
I'd love to see our military people getting big raises,
Please clarify which part of my brief comment sounded like "pissing & moaning" to you, and which part made me sound like I thought that 1.4% was "WAY to much". I was merely pointing out that those that got increases while most got decreases should be happy with what they got. If this makes me an "Assclown" then an assclown I am. I will wear the title proudly. To me your post sounded a lot more like "pissing & moaning" than mine.

Relative to me you got something like a 26.4% increase. (I know the math doesn't really work that way)

I would love to see every military person who saw combat duty to get a $1 million and lifetime healthcare upon return, and the family of everyone that did not return get $10 million, and if the 25% of income I lost in the past year went to pay for that I'd be happy to give it.

Also, I would have been happy if you and your comrades had never gone to "Iracastan". I was never in support of this war, especially not the Iraq part of it.

I appreciate you and your service to this country, thank you. But, still the fact remains that you volunteered to serve, knowing what you would get paid, and knowing that you may be asked to leave your family and go into combat. So I would say to you, quit pissing and moaning, suck it up, and go do the job you signed up to do.

Well the are in office so the Military won't be funded properly... That's the facts and history supports this... When are in office the military is fully funded... Oh don't forget that our federal tax dollars are meant to go to the defense of our nation not to fund all the liberal programs... Keep in mind that this is just the tip of the iceberg, funding across the board for our military is cut and will continue to be cut while the are in office.
I personally feel that the military deserves any and all the support we can give them especially when our politicians have them fighting a war on several fronts… Instead they cut the fund and still expect them to maintain the same fighting posture.
