Default Honeymoon location questions: Jamaca?

The future wife and I want to go to Jamaca for our honeymoon.

Anyone been there?

Where on the island did you stay? hotel? town? etc.

I have heard its reallly nice if you dont go in to the town to see the locals.

If you have a recommondations for an all inclusive that would be nice.

thanks,
rob.

Who in their right mind would marry you?

Oh, and Montego Bay is a shithole, I would stay away from it. The parts away from the main cities are probably fine, particurlarly an all inclusive. The cities are very poor though and people are always trying to sell you shit. If you can, I would go to the Cayman Islands instead.

I'm not a big Jamiaca fan. I think it's dirty and the poverty is so apparent it is depressing--which is sad, but not what I want to see on my vacation. I was in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. The moment you leave your all inclusive you have to be on guard and always watching for someone to take advantage of you. They stand at the gates of your hotel waiting for you to come out.

If you like to get high, it's a great place to go. In fact, there was a guy wearing scuba gear that would float at the end of one of the docks at the place we stayed in Mo Bay that you could buy from. I imagine you can find that anywhere though.

Bottom line: I wouldn't vacation in Jamaica, there are other places with similar climate and wonderful beaches to go that don't have such apparent drugs, crime and poverty.

Tell us more, where did you stay, what hotel, did you leave your hotel often, where did you go when you left your hotel.

Do you go just for the W33dz?

I dont smoke the ganj...anymore so that is not a factor.

Though I have never been, I have heard wonderful things about the Cayman Islands. Talk to CC or Leanz, I'm pretty sure they stopped there on their cruise.

Edit: Pontiac even looks nice in pictures, you are doing the right thing by asking around rather than going off the pictures. Also, visit the travel sites that have reviews for you to read, often times those come with REAL pictures of the resort.

if you want a cool adventure get plane dropped in the middle of the rain forest with all your gear and a compass and make it to a big city to fly home. you will remember it for the rest of your lives.

I dont smoke pot.

I have been to Ocho Rios and Negril.
In Ocho Rios we stayed at a couples, and I have been there twice for cruises.

There is poverty.
There will be poverty in ANY country in the caribean.

I enjoy the straw markets. I have fun bartering there.

The first time we were there (cruise), my wife & I did EVERYTHING that you should not. We got off the boat and started talking to a cabbie (Charlie). We gave him $50 (IIRC) and he drove us all around. To the falls, fern gully, etc. He got us beer and showed us the real Jamaica. It was awesome. We went back with a year later with another couple and did the same thing. The cabbie even remembered us.

I still have a bottle of wine the cabbie gave us the second time (red wine with a punch (for sex)).

Great people.
If you dont want poverty, stay in America. Or never leave the resorts.

Back in '97 I honeymooned in Jamaica.

I think it was the Sandals Royal Jamaican.

I agree with SweetLeah.... I was surprised by the fact that the main airport had a giant hole in the runway Marked only with an orange barrel... We expected to see chickens and goats in the terminal... we were glad that we did not actually see any.

We did not leave the resort during our stay. There were pot deals going down all the time on the Beach.

I do not know how it has changed in the last 13 years.

I have been two the Cayman islands three times.

Once you swim with the stingrays, there is nothing much left to do.
Unless you dive.
Then, it does not matter where you go.

The wife and I stayed at the Grand Jamaica Resort in Ochos Rio and had a great time. Beautiful beach and resort. I would go back in a heart beat. With all the amenaties of the resort, there really is no need to venture into the city, though we did go to the straw market a few times. But found the easiest way to get around in it was to just follow along behind the police walking the market. Everyone would leave you alone then and not pester you to come check out thier stuff for sale. Also if you go, do not change much cash in to Jamaican curency as everyone wanted US dollars.

Here is what I recommend: Go slam your penis in your toilet seat about 12 times then give her half of your stuff and go to Jamaica by yourself, you will have more fun.

Drummond Island.

Since when do they allow people on probation to leave the border?

We stayed at Couples in Negril and it was everything we wanted out of a honeymoon. The beach was amazing, the resort was great. If you leave the resort you will get hassled for money and people selling pot.

We have no regrets going there and would love to go back. The Grand Lido in Negril is supposed to be awesome. They were booked when we wanted to go. The Couples resort was very nice though. Friendly staff, good food and good liquor. Order a Bob Marley drink.

If you ever feel like starting a fight with a Jamaican, tell them something like "Bob Marley was a fag and his music sucked. Also your Jamaican Bob Sled team is a bunch of pussies"

We went to ocho rios last year and stayed in the Riu Hotel. The hotel was awesome, and we loved every minute of that, however the rest of the island is a shit hole, and we dont think we'd go back.

The bus ride from the airport in Montego Bay was sorta like driving through a bomb site.

The airport itself was scary to say the least. When you board going home they just rummage through your stuff with gloves on, the windows had garbage bags on them....Just scary.
