Default Australian shepherd

I've been looking into getting a dog for a while now and have settled on an Australian Shepherd. I love the look of the breed and from what I've read about their personalities I think it'll be a perfect match.

So in my research I did a search on here for australian shepherds and quite a few of you have them as pets. I'm hoping u can reccomend a breeder, I'm having a hard time locating a reasonably priced breeder as all of the ones I've found seem to be in the upper 600 and all include papers. But since I plan on having the pup as a pet it will be fixed and papers are not a premium I'm willing to pay for.

So can u guys point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Papers were not a premium when I payed $800 for my shepherd. I had her fixed and never registered her with AKC. I love my dog and she was worth every penny. Shell out the coin.

Since you don't care about papers and want one on the cheaper side why not look at the rescues. There are plenty of them available in MI for adoption, all ages

Only rescue an aussie if you don't care about HUGE vet bills down the road. Aussies have some really bad blood lines that are super susceptible to cancer, bad hips and bad eyes. We got our aussie from a very well respected breeder which included all the blood line details, and we also got to see "kimber's" parents and grandparents.

We got ours from Cherokee Winds (colorado) and not only did they take great pride in their dogs, but they only have two litters a year. They also did a background check on our home which was more work then applying for a mortgage

Their site is here:
http://www.cherokeewindaustralianshe...ngPageNew.html

I believe we paid $900 for our AKC female, and then had her fixed. We paid more money from this breeder simply because of the perfect documentation of her blood line.

I HOPE you realize what you're getting yourself into with an aussie. They demand lots of attention, but are great to have around when they're constantly being mentally and physically challenged. The reason there are so many aussies in the pounds is because they're VERY VERY high maintenance.

I also forget how smart she is, until I'm around people with labs. But with their intelligence comes attitudes and "back talking" when they're frustrated

I see you're from Clarkston, if you want to play with one before you buy, let me know.

One more "great dog" from an Aussie owner. We have a mini (about 35-40 lbs). High energy and loves attention. Ours is a few years older then our Husky and yet he acts more like a pup then the Husky.

Great with kids but when they start running he does nip at them (can't get the herding out of them).

I'm talking about the one pictured, of course. Not the breed as a whole. That is the only one I have met.

Yeah, when she was a puppy she was like a deaf kangaroo

That's what happens when a dog is caged, even at night.

Hm... Kimber is not caged ever.

And yes, she does jump on people -but not us..... but I believe its because 80% of the strangers she meets allow her to jump then pet her while shes up on their hip, and the other 20% like PP are annoyed. It is a habit we are trying to break but its hard when strangers dont punish her, and we do.

Hmm...sorry then, my mind must be playing tricks on me. I would have bet that I read CC say he put the dog in cage at night. It must have been my imagination, or someone else.

You have a beautiful dog CC, but your breeder is way to far away to go through them. I've found a few on C-list hoobly and Kijiji that seem promising. Just after I posted this I got an email from a breeder north of 69 off 53 that has a black tri male for adoption. Waiting on a response to set up a time to meet her pup.

I am aware of the work required for the breed, I had a Springer Spaniel growing up that is nearly as much work. To me it was quite enjoyable to train her so I look forward to having a similar experience with an Aussie.

Thanks for the offer to meet your dog, I may take you up on that.

As for adopting from shelters, I am not a big fan of most shelters. They tend to have sub quality dogs and want to charge an arm and a leg to adopt them. Not to mention their extremely strict rules to even be considered. It seems as if they are more into it for the money than the welfare of the dog. Humane societies are a different story but most of the dogs I've seen there are some mix of pitt and I want nothing to do with that.

Finding a pure bred Aussie pup is next to impossible at a humane society so a breeder is my best option.

My aunt had one and all it did was bite people. Would chase people down the road, etc.

My grandpa had one out of the same litter and it was the dumbest thing in the world, got hit by a car a couple months ago actually.

Maybe it was just a bad litter..LOL
