I have been a member of Dearborn Federal Credit Union for 15 years. For the last 5 years, they've been profit sharing - based on the money you have with them (savings, checking, loans). This January I was given almost $1200 as a dividend for banking there.

I have no idea why people use banks anymore.

We're on the Fence about it right now. WE have accounts at MSUFCU and National City. This makes the choice a bit more easy. Looks like I'll be switching all over to MSUFCU.

about half of ours is in credit unions (MSUFCU and Navy Fed) and the other half is in one of those big evil banks. Luckily, my there is enough in our savings account that we are not charged any fees for anything... ever. Multiple free safe deposit boxes, zero fees on checking/savings/ATMs, and zero fees on the investment accounts that we have with big evil bank.

As long as big evil bank is good to us, we will keep our money there.

Sometimes it's nice to be married to a trust-fund baby.
