Default Glock 22 or 23 wanted. *gun purchased*

I am interested in a Glock 22 or 23 preferably with night sights. Gun needs to be in good condition.

Since I am a gun retard, a suggestion for a used gun source would be nice if you don't have a glock for sale.

I have a 17 that I've considered selling. I'm still up in the air on whether to sell it or not. It's had about 150 rounds through it and it's in new condition, never carried, always cleaned. No night sights. If you're interested in it we can discuss a price.

I was looking at a new glock 17 at Williams Gun Shop in Auburn. The price with night sights was $540.00. They told me that the night sights by themselves were $150.00.

With this information in mind, what price were you thinking?

Those prices sound a bit high. I paid $519 for my 26 and the trijicons were under $100 IIRC. Here is a good link for used pistols. Also, I checked a new gen 4 17 last week and the price was about $580. You could also look into the Glock Shooting Sports Foundation (GSSF). for $35 you can get a free certificate for LEO pricing on a NEW glock, which is about $390. That WILL be less than anything used you can find.

USED FIREARMS

Here is the old GSSF program structure. Note that it has recently changed for the better IMO. It now allows you to get our pistol at more locations, ie. Duncans or Williams. I would call the GSSF for dealer location verification though, just to be sure.

I'm looking into going to the police academy this fall at Delta College. I was told I need to provide my own gun and it has to have night sights.

I just purchased two Glocks on Monday at the officer price of $430 each. Night sights add about 80 bucks. Night sights wouldn't be worth it to the average person, but for police work are needed.

Also, get a .40. Not a 9 as very few police carry 9s anymore.

Wont the department he would eventually get hired into provide their standard issue firearm? If he needs one for the academy the 9mm would be cheaper to shoot and practice with. Just a thought.

Not much to add but I have the 17 and 19. Just got the 19 a couple weeks ago for my wife. Both have the night sights. My wife and I shoot 9mm for targets and range/ events. I paid too much but really like to support the local gun store here ($615 OTD with night sights for the 19 2-weeks ago). My 17 was bought off a state cop buddy of mine years ago. One thing I'd add is we use those cheap Hogue (sp?) slip on grip sleeves and LOVE THEM. Stock grip is really blocky to me. Good luck and if you're ever up to W Branch wheeling and want to shoot either/or, (or try any of the others we own) look me up. We have a steel target (redneck) range behind my house and shoot regularly. Unfortunately my eldest son outshoots us both lol

What bearing does this have on anything?

Some departments do issue, and some don't. Oakland County does. Washtenaw does not. They provide a gun allowance. It's not that uncommon for agencies to do this. They will often require it be a certain caliber or maybe even a brand, but it's still up to you to buy.

Yes, 9 is cheaper to shoot, but I would bet the academy will provide the ammo. I don't know of any police academies that don't. They will likely have 9 and 40 though as they are both popular rounds.

Even if the weapon isn't used on duty after school a .40 is still a better round.

Since I am gun stupid, I need to get alot of practice time in before I get to the academy. The 9 would just be cheaper to learn with.

I can understand that. Then again, many gun instructors would rather have somebody who has never shot and developed bad habits over somebody who practiced and now sucks. lol

You will get plenty of shooting time in the academy. You don't need to practice now. The only way I would recommend shooting now is if you have somebody who knows what their doing (not somebody who has been shooting for years, but somebody who actually knows) that can take you out and teach you and run your through some drills.
