Default 4.3 Vortecs??

Hey guys,

I have a 98 S-10 with a 4.3 vortec. I need another to drop in possibly. What I was wondering is will the earlier (pre-96 . . . early/mid 90s) model 4.3 block interchange with the 96-99 vortecs as long as I swap my fuel injection set-up?? Correct me if I am wrong but some of the pre-96 4.3s were vortecs right??

Thanks

vortec is loosely used on 91 and up 4.3s that had the high output option. 91-95 were different then 96 and up. you need a 96 and up 4.3 to be a drop in deal.

The short block will work but you have to use your heads and intake and accessories. If you need a 96 and up motor let me know I have 3 of them in the barn. Stock to bored over. I'll make a package deal it you want it all I sold off the trucks that I was going to use them in and want the room.

there are slight differences that make older blocks incompatible

I know someone that used a 96 block with his 93 heads and intake and hasn't had any trouble. It was the turtle shell style Vortec so maybe that was why now that I think about it.

91-94 have no crank sensor 95+ do so you can use new in old but not old in new
