harbor freight 9000lb winch

well i put my tax return to some good use and bought a new 9000lb winch from harbor freight. yes i know it's made in china and probably not worth it's weight in scrap, but i just got done putting it to use and i can say it definitely gets the job done. even with a full drum it pulls a vehicle onto the trailer with ease. i bought the 9000lb capacity reciever carrier as well. so for 449.99 out the door i cant complain. heres a comparison between my old 3000lb vs the new 9000lb setup.

I have the 10k. I've had it for about 3 years now and have used it a fair amount. It's slow, but it's always worked when needed. I'm extremely happy with it considering how little I have invested in it.

As for the china part, it's made in the same factory milemarkers and t-maxs are built in.

well thats good to know. milemarkers seem to hold up pretty good so i'm told. and with my reciever mount and quick disconnect wiring i can put this winch on just about anything which makes it even better.

just playing devils advocate, but for under $400 you could have got a ramsey rep 8.5.

I believe these are made in the states, which is good. Other than that, I don't see any real benefit to this winch over the HF.

There are other cheaper winches now too to choose from. When I bought mine, there weren't any sub $500 winches onthe market that I would have trusted.

What brand? Don't they sell Champions? I've seen a couple of those not function properly on the trail.

I've got the 8,000 lb one that I paid $200 for because the box was opened! I originally had it on my Sami five years ago, but it was too slow so I switched to a Warn. I put the winch on my trailer for pulling stuff up and it is great. I've pulled 10,000 lb trucks with flat tires and locked up wheels onto it with no issue. It's slow as shit, but keeps on pulling all day long.

Those are good winch but keep steel cable in order or they wrap until it bigger then break 2 chrome brackets you see.

My Friend have 1 for 4 years on trailer. It pull from geo metro to GM 3500 crewcab. It suck lot power so make sure your alternator produce enough volts.

1 issues is garbage controller so we just use slot screwdriver to port on electric box.

next time i get money i'm going to upgrade to a synthetic rope now that i know where to get one. the 3/8 cable is robust enough but i hate steel splinters when they get old.

I've heard nothing but good things about HF winchs from those who own them except that they are slow. I am going to get one today as well plus I found a 20% off coupon on line for 1 single item.

I'm quite proud of my HF 8000 pounder as well! Never had a lick of trouble with it. Most abuse it ever saw, and passed with flying colors was this: Pulled a 2wd 1 ton Ram dually longbed hooked to an 18 foot heavy duty implement trailer with 4 foot sides, both loaded to the top of the sides and bedrails with fresh hardwood, up a decent incline!

I can't argue that. However, I have 3 years worth of fairly regular use out of my 10k that I have less than 400 into with an extended warranty and have never had to contact the company.

I know Warn stands behind theres, but I could also buy mine 3 times for the same price of most Warns.

Don't get me wrong, eventually I'll pony up and buy a big name winch (mainly only because I would like a faster winch) but I see no reason not to purchase the HF winches as I've never heard anyone that actually has one have complaints besides the speed.

I was thinkin about picking up a XRC8 from smittybuilt #8000 winch for 299.99 shipped to the door.
Sounds like a deal to me and I have not heard anything bad about them (other than line speed)

For what it's worth (I don't have one) I've heard a couple stories of guys having issues with the solonoids...
