Default 02 F-150 Diff help

I believe I need to replace my rear carrier bearings, and possibly the pinion bearing. If I am just replacing the bearings, is it necessary to measure the backlash, pinion depth, preload, and check the gear contact pattern? Or can I simply install the new bearings with the same shims that came out? This is on an 02 F-150 4x4 4.6L, with an 8.8.

i would re-do it all if it was mine.

maybe install it with the old shims and see if it measures out.
but as far as if it is required or not, im not sure.
