Default bronco

ok so im new to Ford.. Just traded my Tahoe for a 1985 bronco.. mint body 351 blah blah... It has that funky front indepent axle in it.. I was wondering whats better that or a solid ford 44 or 60? and would that axle just drop in or do I have to make shackes and stuff for leaf springs? right now I have coils and I think a four inch lift?

obviously the D60 is better, and the 44 could be a better option then the TTB, depending on what you are doing with the truck

to do the SAS, yes, you will need to do some fabricating, its not a bolt in and go sort of thing

to decide if its worth it, you first need to decide what your plans for the truck are

a sas with a dana 44 is a waste of time, unless you have nothing better to do or your front is trashed, there is no reason to swap out a ttb 44 for a solid 44 if it is in working order

go on fullsize bronco .com, it has all the answers to your questions. I was toying with the idea myself. it covers both leaf spring and coil spring swaps. if it were me coils would be easyer.

TTBs DO ride better than solid axles- regardless of what anyone says. they have less of an unpsrung mass input into the suspension and are a compromise similar to a IFS , so a softer ride is accomplished with TTBs.

the downsides are: more difficult to align, much less lift friendly (gotta mess with the knuckles and shim them) and tire wear is more prevalent on a TTB than on a solid live axle.

I agree with the stated post that there isn't much gained in swapping the D44 TTB to a SLA D44 if the TTB is in working order. leaf springs are NOT a better option for a front suspension than coils (for ride characteristics).

If you're swapping to a D60 then that would be a different story....
