Default t case problems

so here is the deal i have a 97 ford f250 with a powerstroke diesel and i have a question about the transfer case i beleve it is a bw1356 (truck is a auto with manual 4x4 shift) but the output bearing is bad it has slop the question is what all do i have to do to replace this do i have to split the case or not thanks in advance
