ipad = MEH

I don't see much use, except maybe as a video capable competitor to the Kindle.

Have they released pricing yet, I haven't seen it anywhere thus far.

$499 is way cheaper than I thought it would be. I had guessed somewhere around $1500. Im still not sold on the idea though. I in no way see it ever replacing my macbook.

It never was meant to be a replacement for a full on laptop. Maybe a netbook.

The $499 model might be competition for the Kindle in some ways, not sure why you would care about the others. Hits around the same price point.

Not replacing my macbook either, nor will I add it to my iphone/MBP collection...

I definitely see it being appealing to those whom read a lot of books, but other than that...

That makes more sense. I was under the impression that this was supposed to be a "more integrated" laptop type thing.

Kindle DX is $489, has 3G built in, with no service fees. Compare that to $629 for the cheapest iPad 3G, with a $30 monthly fee. Admittedly, the Kindle can't do as much, but c'mon... The smaller Kindle has 3G for free as well, and is $259.

I like it. Probably wont get one though. My ipod touch is much more convenient, and does all the same stuff.

W/ a networked hard drive, and the ability to run mainstream apps like the Adobe suite or Office, I can see it replacing a desktop though. Especially for those that use their desktop for email, web, music and a little word processing.
Heck, put the dock on a coffee table and run a slideshow while it's charging.

Well, it can't run mainstream apps like Office (it does have iWork) or Adobe. Or multitask. Or do Flash. Or sync your music collection to your iPods or other MP3 players. Or run IE (there are still IE only sites, sucky as that is) or alternative browsers.

Basically it's an overpriced, glorified, far less functional netbook with an ebook reader app.

It's not designed to replace a computer. It's at best an Ipod Touch with 3G and a larger screen. It would make a spectacular digital photo frame! I don't see it having much other function though. Maybe for some presentations and people that dabble with art.

I see the book feature being okay at best. Sure the Kindle is extremely limited, but it's designed to be a book. Most people I've talked with don't actually like reading from an LCD. Those I've talked to that have a kindle love the E-Paper. They literally can read it anywhere unlike the glossy LCD screen that comes with the Ipad.

Here is the entire event if anyone wants to watch.

I'm surprised at the price - much less than I expected it to be. If it had Flash and Adobe capabilities, I'd be pretty tempted. It would work perfect for me at home for when I like to just sit on the couch and watch TV and surf then net. It would have a larger screen than my iPhone but not be as cumbersome as my laptop. But considering it's still lacking some of the features I would want, I'll stick to my 5-year-old PowerBook for now.

There are two extremely large problems with this product that would prevent me from ever using something to kick back and watch tv.

1.) No multitasking: I couldn't dream of doing just one thing at a time on a computer. I'd get bored. I love it because I can do so many things at once!

2.) Physical Keyboard: The stand is pretty nifty but that isn't functional at all for on your lap. I just cannot surf the web without typing. There is no way to do any type of serious typing on an oversized Ipod Touch touchscreen keyboard.

I agree that a physical keyboard would be a necessity for me to really get my $$$ worth out of this but I imagine within a week of its release some company like LogiTech will have a keyboard that will sync up with it.

Another feature that would be nice would be a USB port so that you could transfer video/music to and from an external hard drive or computer.

All that being said, if I were they type of person who spent a crap load of hours on an airplane every week, this would be a pretty cool gadget to have along on the flights... until of course they tell you know more electronics on the plane ever.

They have a USB attachement. Of course it plugs into the all mighty apple port because Steve Jobs is god and he doesn't believe in the Church of USB.
