Default Crap, interviews suck

Weld tests are worse. First off, I was late due to writing down the time at 10:30, and didn't know I had to show up at 10. Second, I choked on the weld test. My welds were rough. I showed him my second set of welds which were pretty much twice as good, but it wasn't my best. This is my first welding job I've applied for and haven't welded in a few months so I guess that didn't help.
Let's just hope I get this job. Two of my friends work there and they say good things, the job is real laid back too.

Maybe you should have been practice welding?

Good luck though.

I was going to practice last night but I spent all night trying to find my helmet and gloves. The good news is, my friend who is a bender there said his welds were really good and he ended up as a bender instead, which is funny because he makes more money than the welder does I think.

If I were the one doing the hiring, I wouldn't hire you. Always confirm dates and times. Always be prepared to accomplish the task at hand. You should be the best representation of yourself that you can be in an interview.

I should have just turned the wire feed up a tad, I was flooring it for no reason. Usually I do good welds, in school I could weld 24 gauge with .035 wire without blowing out, but today I just choked.

I'm pretty sure I confirmed it but the guy on the phone was talking like a squirrel on speed so I probably messed up. At least I was dressed nice like usual.

I have to say I probably wouldn't hire you. In today's marketplace where jobs are rare, somebody who shows up late for a test is strike one. Then to say "I haven't been practicing" tells me this job isn't all that important to you. Strike two. Saying that I wasted the night looking for my helmet & gloves tells me that you are not up to speed as a welder. I weld in my garage about once a month or less and know that my helmet is always with my welder. Strike three. Sorry.

I didn't tell him any of that, and I did call in advance and tell him what was going on. I never said I wasn't practicing, I actually just gave him note that I'll do better. The second pass, I did better, showing him that I can get shit done. At least the interviewer wasn't a dick like most seem to be.
My helmet and gloves were moved because I just recently moved from house to house and that is why I didn't have them with me.
