Default Conan's Final Speech...Serious, but amazing.

Ok, This was Conan's Final Words for his last Audiance at NBC. He's serious, but shows one of the best sides of his personality, IMO. He will be Missed week day nights.

Edit: I forgot to R epost check this, I apologize if it is a R epost

He has to wait atleast 6 months before he's allowed to sign another contract, so the terms of his buy out said.

Video's been removed, but by the way you guys are talking, it seems like he went out without being a whiny little woman like he has been for the last week. I'd give some respect to him for that atleast. But the way he's been acting just makes me care less.

Boohoo, they moved your slot. Happens to a lot of good TV shows. Get over it.

If you knew you were going to be getting a Promotion for, let's say 6 years, and then finally got it; Would you be a little Upset/Unhappy if they told you 5 weeks after you moved up that they were just kidding and you're getting put back to your old Position? Not only that but it's because the old guy didn't do well at his new job? That's exactly what happened. And yes, He went out with an amazing amount of Humility.

I'm sorry, but I didn't care much for Conan when he was on at 12:30 and when he moved into the new slot, I thought he was even worse.

Yeah, I could probably handle that no problem for the report $45 million (or whatever it is) that he's getting.

Were they going to give that to him if he stayed? I wasn't too sure on that but I don't think so. It's severance pay. I wouldn' t mind that much either. He also is paying his entire crew's Severance pay from the $45 Million....NBC didn't seem to think they needed to pay all of their pay.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35.
He would have still had a show, but he was being a whiny bitch about being moved back 30 minutes. So they offered him a buy out.

it clearly wasn't about money to him. It was about a companies word, which now days, doesn't mean shit.

Here is the transcript. The actual speech was mcuh better than the transcript reads, it's worth searching for and watching

from CNN
Quote:
"There has been a lot of speculation in the press about what I legally can and can't say about NBC. To set the record straight, tonight I am allowed to say anything I want. And what I want to say is this: between my time at "Saturday Night Live," "The Late Night Show," and my brief run here on the "Tonight Show," I have worked with NBC for over 20 years. Yes, we have our differences right now and yes, we're going to go our separate ways, but this company has been my home for most of my adult life. I am enormously proud of the work we have done together, and I want to thank NBC for making it all possible.

"Walking away from the "Tonight Show" is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Making this choice has been enormously difficult," O'Brien continued. "This is the best job in the world, I absolutely love doing it, and I have the best staff and crew in the history of the medium. But despite this sense of loss, I really feel this should be a happy moment. Every comedian dreams of hosting the "Tonight Show" and, for seven months, I got to. I did it my way, with people I love, and I do not regret a second. I've had more good fortune than anyone I know and if our next gig is doing a show in a 7-11 parking lot, we'll find a way to make it fun.

"Finally, I have to say something to our fans. The massive outpouring of support and passion from so many people has been overwhelming. The rallies, the signs, all the goofy, outrageous creativity on the Internet, and the fact that people have traveled long distances and camped out all night in the pouring rain to be in our audience, made a sad situation joyous and inspirational. To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I'll think about it for the rest of my life. "

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere," he concluded. "Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen.

Actually his Reason was because he didn't want to ruin a Time honored tradition that he remembered from his Child hood, The tonight show. His Statement he made early on was that he didn't want anything to do with Destroying what the tonight show was by moving it back farther. He remembered it being on right after the news when he was a kid and wanted it to stay that way. That was also the reason he left, because the network refused to change their mind. It was a Idealistic reason he left, not just because he didn't like being moved back.

He also made mention that he didn't want to host The Tonight Show tomorrow morning since it would have tehnically started the next morning

Thats one hell of a morning show. Who does would it apply to?

The people who are still up late at NIGHT.

Again, boohoo.

Traditions don't last forever. TV show time slots get moved.

But hey, if he was that willing to give it up that easy for a wad of cash, he must not have cared THAT much. I really doubt moving it back 30 minutes would hurt the show at all. Considering it is was already aired from 11:35 to 12:35, it technically was already an "Early Morning" show.
