Just relocate it. Some of the people said that they won't run right with out the canister.

when i smashed my xj i broke the canister into like 30 peices. when i rebuilt it i didnt put a new one in and it ran just fine. never noticed a drop in the mileage or any other problems.

in the other forum they suggested to run the vac line direct to the gas tank. that will place the whole tank under vac. when fuel is getting sloshed around it will get sucked into the hose, that is raw fuel, and your engine will run rough or stall. the evap. canister only collects vapours. Dont mount it on its side either, the filter must be on the bottom. Find a way to get it working right. The canister will also purge itself occasionally with fresh air from the bottom through the filter. The fresh air is drawn up through the filter so if it is oily around the bottom of the filter the oil will also get sucked up
