Default LaCrosse or Taurus

My wife is in need of a new car, and based upon looks alone (that's basically all she cares about besides power locks and power windows) we have narrowed it down to probably either a 2010 LaCrosse or a 2010 Taurus.

Anybody on here with any experience with both cars who can give there dishonest biased opinion on them? I know the Taurus is slightly more powerful, but on paper, they both seem pretty comparable (though the Taurus seems to have quite a bit more torque).

I'm particularly interested in the AWD on both the cars - is it worth the extra money in a car like this? Both cars are front wheel drive and it's not as if we live in the mountains of Colorado or along the twisty roads of the Pacific Coast.

Oh, and we will not be getting an SHO so don't waste your time telling me that's what we should buy. Yes I'd love to have one but since it will be her car, there's no way that she'll agree to spending the extra $$.

[rant]And why no lifetime warranty on these vehicles? Come on Ford and GM! Get with it! If Chrysler can give me a standard lifetime warranty on my Wrangler when I got that, why not you on these cars!?![/rant]

Keep in mind that it takes us about 6 months to pick out a couch so even after the big brain here offers up their insightful opinion, we will probably have changed our minds completely and decided to purchase a Subaru Tribeca (do they even still make that?) or have moved to Chicago and begun to commute by train.

On an unrelated note... if anybody wants to but a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero with about 180,000 miles and a new transmission (in 2008 I believe) that's never been smoked in, let me know.

That's basically what I was thinking too.

She was actually thinking of a 2009 LaCrosse but I thought it was blah so had basically written it out of the equation. Then when the 2010 was unveiled and was much better looking it came back up for consideration.

The new Taurus AWD is great and a pleasure to drive every day. AWD is the only way to go anymore IMO. Why waste it on 2wd when you get get AWD.

I do not own one (mine is an AWD Montego older body style) but I did get to drive one for a couple weeks and it will def. be my next car.

AWD loaded w/ everything but the kitchen sink, unless they add that as a new option for 2011.

Another vote here for the taurus. We are thinking about one for the misses. Definitely a car worth owning IMO.

Buick is far superior in overall quailty. Few people realize how good it is, lumping all GM together is a mistake.

Either is nice, I've had very good luck with recent Fords, but we make more money when you buy a LaCrosse.

I did the cluster in the LaCrosse:

I know Buick is supposed to be tops in the quality and reliability category these days (or tied with Lexus or something like that). So that is something else for me to consider.

We have yet to drive either of the cars though. Hopefully next Thursday or Friday we can make our way out to a couple of stealerships to get a closer look.

I am not a huge GM guy anymore.
But, the Lacrosses are nice.
GM did an outstanding job with this car. The intent of the lacrosse from day one was to compete with the Lexus as far as quality and driveability go.

This scares me

I get my oil changed in the F350 at Ford and took a Taurus for a spin the last time and liked it. The base model seats weren't great so maybe you'll get a better version and be happy. The seats in the SHO are awesome but I know you can't be talked into it.

As for the Buick the looks this year are great.

Have a quarter to flip??

Gm does not make money on the small shitty little cars that the government is attempting to cram down our throats.
