"We also have tremendous opportunities to use our ships as transport vessels for relief supplies and personnel to Haiti," said associate vice president John Weis. "Simply put, we cannot abandon Haiti now that they need us most."
I think I agree with this

They did a great job justifying the reason for not re routing their ships. I am sure the real reason is becaue the there is a huge cost involved in rerouting their ships and finding a new place for that ship to be when the schedule for ports, resorts and ships has been in place for many months (years?)

I guy I work with had a cruise that was planning on docking there. The island told them to go ahead and continue to dock there, so that the locals still had a job. The ship also put together a fund of around $50,000 to go towards the relief effort. The ship itself also donated a lot of food and supplies that they could spare. I'll have to ask him what cruise line it was on.

Edit: I believe it was on a Royal Caribbean

Was on a cruise thru the Cruise Line a few years ago that stopped at Labadee. Even back then, they had armed guards at the gate to keep the tourists and locals separate.

Labadee where the ship docks is a spit of land on the far side of the island. It is owned by the cruise line and is for the use of them exclusively. Main thing the ship does is stops there for the day to have customers spend money riding around on Jet skis, Ocean Kayaks, and buying trash trinkets from local vendors.

Was a waste of a stop, even back then.

As far as I know, RC is the only cruise line that owns property on Haiti. We were there last year, it's called Labadee. It's just a small tip penninsula of land on the island, and there are really no buildings there to speak of. There was also no damage to the land.

RC stock holders all received a letter about this (maybe I'll scan it) explaining that they employee a HUGE amount of people there, and it would be harder on the families if they didn't show up on the proper dates they were scheduled, and they also donated over 1 million to the island. I'm pretty sure RC is one (if not the top) employeer in haiti.

They canceled it already. Apparently it should have been called the "Rabbits" cruise, because that's what people on the trip fucked like all during the trip.
