The whole "help the less fortunate country" stuff is the same socialist stuff everyone complains about here for helping the less fortunate.

I hate to say it, but I'm not for either. Call me selfish, but my money is my money. I worked for it and made my own sacrifices to put myself in the position I am. If you aren't willing to work hard and make sacrifices, you deserve to fail. It's the same thing in the business world - if they don't make the right decisions and work hard, they fail. There shouldn't be anyone to bail them or anyone else out.

I agree but we can't turn a blind eye. But if we help someone we should help our own x2.

The only difference that i think you are missing, is the people of Haiti dont have anything to turn too, If people of the world choose to help them, that is great because with out they dont have a chance.

Also think of the little kids, that lost there parents. What are they supposed to do, go and take care of them selves in diapers.

When it comes to the military, they are helping out, if they were not they would be sitting on a base here in the states. I am sure the people of the military would rather help someone in need, then sit around

They don't have anything to turn too.... kids with out parents... kids with out parents in diapers...

heres a news flash THATS LIFE. its not fair and nothing is set in stone. you are missing the point that we are not in a position to help. i see people trying to hitch hike in the opposite direction im going but that doesnt mean i turn around take them to where there going in my car that i pay for that i maintain that i clean, wash etc... just to take there poor broke ass "who just lost there job, wife, dog and doesnt have a friend in the world ass to the store"

it doesnt matter how sad the story is it's always the same. and they do have people to rely on there own countrymen and women. and no matter how much we help them in the end haiti will still be the same shit hole of a country it was before. UNLESS we support them like for ever.

CUT THE CORD.

The united states is offering military help and this is wrong? What else would they be doing right now? They also gave 100 Millions dollars, that is nothing compared to what we have done in the past to other country's

The world is helping this country not just the United States.

I guess the world should just sit back and watch these people rot, this was a NATURAL DISASTER. They didn't ask for this or do it to them selves.

Here we can do what we have to do to survive if you put a little effort, down there there is nothing left.

That is the difference

just because it was done in the past does not mean it should be done in the future, 2ndly in the past our economy wasn't on the rebound. the military aid is fine because that is what the national guard is for and it includes our outlining provinces such as shit hole haiti.
but what really grinds my gears is the propaganda donate donate donate and no fellow american even tried a fraction of this explicit propoganda for katrina and new orleans for our own land!
the world should help but since we as a country are on the rebound and fighting a never ending war our attention should not get distracted because some shit hole country had a natural disaster.

What's really funny about your side of the arguments is it's not the way the "hard working Citizens" that built this country really would think. You see, Back when this country was born, people helped each other. Why? Because they knew it was their CIVIC DUTY to do so. If not thier Civic Duty, then just good old selflessness. If anything, because they knew it was the right thing to do. People in this country are Too focused on what THEY accomplished and what THEY have instead of looking around and seeing how they can help.

READ the article at the FORBES website. it gives a much bigger picture of how much the u.s. REALLY contirbutes. it makes one wonder about all the guilt we're supposed to feel because of their misfortune.

amazing, that the United States has done so much to protect the oil rich country's ad now they sit there on all the money, maybe we should take all of out troops out of the middle east, and let them fend for them selves.

The Unites States is footing the bill for the protection over there, makes you wonder why?

we have no "Civic" duty towards other countries we have a Civic duty to help our neighbors not our neighboring countries which apparently means the world.

all i'm saying is i'm pissed how everyone jumps on the save other countries band wagon and no one thinks twice about jumping on the save the U.S. band wagon not even the U.S.'s own people. because we are too concerned about helping everyone else. and its never going to change.

I agree with you on the last paragraph except it's not because we're focused on other countries. We're focused on getting ahead for our selves. When I said Civic Duty, I couldn't quite find the right word at the time. I'd say this, It's The U.S.A.'s character to help out other nations. Not because they deserve it but it's because it's the right thing for a Nation that is wealthy to help a Less fortunate country. Now, after seeing articles like the one before you posted, I'm all about ending our relief donation commercials and all that kind of stuff. We're doing our part every day and then some. It's time for the rest of the world to stand up and help a bit more.

BTW, this is a General Question not to any one specific. Do you think that China Views America as many of you view Haiti? We may not be impoverished, or poor, but we don't even use money wisely. I can Imagen that all that money we borrowed from China (or who ever) could be paralleled with all the Aid we've been giving Haiti. I just wonder if Chinese people say things like "Why are we giving them money? They had a perfect opportunity to make it on their own. Screw Them!" ? Just a thought.
