I did try spring over when I was first putting the new springs on, but it was just as high as when I tore it apart. My whole plan for this build was to go back to a small lift, and big tires. When I first got it, I ran it with 33" tires and no lift. I loved that for the stability. That is why I went back to that theme this time.

I am going to add another main leaf to the rear pack and military wrap it. I like how it flexes so far, but just don't like how the front of the XJ spring bends. That is why I am going with a military wrap on the front of the springs.

And those are Swampers. Well kinda. haha

Well the steering box just jumped to the top of the list of things to do. I went out to the barn yesterday, and all of my fluid was on the ground. It is coming from around the pitman arm shaft. I found a friend that has a used one that i am probably going to use. I might end up rebuilding the one on my jeep for a spare too.

Has anyone had any experience with rebuilding steering boxes? It is a power steering box if that matters.

Steering box is fixed. Got the front shock mounts done and front shocks installed. Now I need to work on some door latches for my new soft doors. They are for a hard top, so they will not latch to the stock door pin.
I was working on putting my winch back on but I found out that with the CJ grill, the solenoid box on my winch blocked the headlight. Now I am going to mount the solenoid box under the hood, and maybe add an in dash controller. Also adding the military wrap to the rear springs as soon as I get the new leaf. I put a new valve cover gasket on it last night. Still have a lot of little things that need to be done so that will keep me busy for a while.

I will post some new pics when I make a little more progress.

The winch is done. Working on getting a top on the jeep, and still looking for some cherokee springs to do a military wrap on the rear springs. Planning on cleaning up some wiring, and installing an in dash winch controller as soon as I can build a switch panel and decide where I want to put it.

Finally got the in dash winch controller finished. Got a hard top on the jeep, and now working on getting the door latches figured out. With winter coming this will be my DD again. Also need to get the front gears installed so that I can go out an play some more. I will post some pics next time I am out working in the barn.

The engine decided to crap out on me, so that is apart now. Hopefully I can get away with just a head gasket since nothing appears to be cracked. Once I get the engine back together I will start working on some of the other stuff like finishing the tube fenders front and rear.

I put the engine back together, but now I have decided that I am finally going to put a new engine in it. I am planning on going with a 4.3L/5 speed. I am working on finding parts now, and I will be parting out the entire 2.5L drivetrain if anyone needs anything. LOL
I will get some pics of the progress on here as soon as I make some progress. HAHA

I have the whole 2.5L drivetrain out now. I am working on getting rid of all of the wiring and crap that I will no longer be needing. Now I just have some wiring under the dash that I have to sort out. I am going with a 4.3/5 speed. I am gonna swap my hillbilly SYE over from the jeep t-case and possibly be able to use the same driveshaft that I had before. I have the new trans/t-case bolted to a spare block to start on engine/trans mounts. I am still trying to decide for sure if I want to just throw a carb on it, and have it together sooner, or go the TBI route. If I do TBI I am going to take a shot at the wiring harness myself. Does anyone know of anywhere near Kalamazoo/GR that can reprogram/flash TBI ECMs? I will be posting some pics when I get back out to the barn.

Finally making some progress on the engine swap. I got the t/case rebuilt how I wanted it and bolted back to the trans. I used the back half of my jeep 231, and put it on the back of the chevy 231. This gave me the six pinion planetarys, adn the jeep rear output(Redneck SYE). I Have a mock up block that I am using to figure out all of the engine and trans mounts. I am hoping to have the mounts finished and ready for final welding sometime this weekend. The new drivetrain fits perfect and I will still have plenty of room for accesories, and my winch control box, and eventually getting my on board air hooked back up on this engine. The shifters fit without having to trim the tub, and I can still use the driveshaft that I made right before deciding to do an engine swap. Here are some pics of the jeep right now.

I got the trans mount done today, ended up having to move the engine forward about 3" to make the driveshaft work. I am not sure that I like how you can now see the transmission from under the hood.(But it will make removing the tranny bolts alot easier. Also just need to clear coat the dash and install the switches and it will be finished. I will take some pics of the engine location tomorrow and everyone can give me some input on what they think.

Bought a truck last night with a good running 4.3. I am getting everything figured out with the engine in the truck, and then I will work on swapping the wiring harness over to the jeep. More pics to come.

Got the new engine today. Working on getting the engine mounts finished up, then just need to weld them, and I will be able to put the engine in the jeep. After that, just need to swap the fuel pump, do some wiring, and figure out the radiator.

I got the engine mounts finished today. I am going to put the engine in tomorrow morning, and start working on the exhaust, and hopefully finish the engine wiring. Also hoping to sell some more parts tomorrow so that I can go buy some more parts to make some more progress on the jeep. I need to get a radiator, fuel pump, and some general tune up parts. Here are some pics of the engine mounts, and engine. I will get some more pics once the engine is in the jeep.

This is the wiring harness that I am working on for the jeep

This is the engine that I used for the mock up engine.
