Default CJ7 axles

I'm looking at buying a 82 CJ-7,it has narrow track axles,I already have a 83 CJ-7,but don't know what axle. What year did AMC start making the wide track??? And what is the differance??? Are the frames the same,WT/NT??? Will a tub from a 85 work on an 82 frame??? I had a 85 CJ-7 years ago, that was a wide track,I loved that jeep, wife made me get rid of it.Now I got rid of wife and want another CJ. Can anyone help me??? Thanks Jim

81-86 were wide track so the 82 must of been swapped. Only difference is axles.

No expert on cj tubs but would say the tubs would swap.

Wide tracks started in 82 should be no difference in anything else except the width of the axles.

82-86 where wide track, except for the CJ5.

Front shock mounts are different between the NT and WT axles.

WT's were a mid-year change in 1982. You will find 82's with both.

Tubs were the same during those years.

In the event you want to switch it to WT, here's a complete front. I also have a rear.
