broken water heater or 2

Looking for a water heater or 2 to try to make a heater out of em. free is the name of the game here, so I'll haul it away for you, but not looking to buy anything, especially since I'm not sure if it will work or not.

Please be close to jackson or battle creek, or better yet Homer!

Electric ones are preferred over gas

Are you looking at making a waste oil heater? Keep an eye out on craigslist listings in your area. People list broken ones for free a lot down around SW MI.

yeah, making a used oil heater.
No drip though; gonna see if I can pressurize the oil and burn the vapor. Should make it a hell of a lot hotter.

A .250 wall tank would be awsome, but also expensive, so I'll go small with a water heater for starters.

It is too friggin cold in my garage to do my other projects.

I was looking at making a waste oil heater before I decided to just bring up a wood stove from Maryland that my brother wasn't using. I had a page that really went in depth modifying the typical waste oil heater to be more efficient and need less frequent cleaning, so I'll see if I can find it.

I put the wood stove in my garage last month. I just got back inside from giving it a good test run. It's about 20* outside and I had it up to 45* in my garage after a couple hours, so I think I can get it nice and warm in there if I have a fire burning all day long.

local junkyard sells em for $.30lb.. you'd probably have a couple bucks in it, but you can pick and choose what you want

$35 plus a broken water heater. Thinking about making one for the garage.

Looks awesome

that was the site I was looking at too
I'm hopin to add forced air and spray the oil in a fine mist for awsome heat and easy cleaning.

I'll keep an eye out for you...I'm working on one of these as well, but I'm just doing the drip system.

actually just did the first test burn tonight, though I dont have the exhaust on it, or the intake tube..looks like it will burn pretty well

what I used for a tank is something I got from work...3/16 or 1/4 wall cylinder that conveyer belt material comes on (never actually measured the thickness, but plenty heavy)

If I come across another one of those, I'll let you know.

I have a propane one that I swapped out last year when I switched over to natural gas. It's like 6 years old, whirlpool. It's in Kzoo, still in my basement, if you want it.

If you were to get to the Holland, MI. area I could probably get you a few of them for free if my neighbor has any at the time.

that would be cool, just so long as they aren't galvanized. I was looking into stripping em, and it looks to be too much hassle.
