Default welding question...

If your welding two different gauge materials, say 1/8" to 1/4"... how to you set up your machine?

Set up for the 1/4" and start your weld on the 1/4", then kinda just let it flow to the 1/8"

I would actually set it up closer to a 3/16" setting or just a little hot for the 1/8" and then dwell a little longer on the thicker material and just sweep onto the thin stuff so you get penetration but dont undercut it. The weld only needs to be as strong as the material it's holding together, by welding 1/8" too hot you will undercut it and decrease the strength in that area.
