Free snowshoe hikes @ Sleeping Bear
EMPIRE, Mich. (AP) — Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is offering snowshoe hikes starting next week.
The first of the hikes is Wednesday afternoon. It starts from the visitor center in Empire near Lake Michigan in the northern Lower Peninsula.
The National Park Service says it will offer the programs every Saturday and Sunday starting Jan. 2 and continue through the end of February or later as conditions allow.
It says people who don't own snowshoes can reserve and use them free. The hikes are free, but participants must buy a seven-day vehicle pass for $10 or an annual pass for $20.
The park service says participants should be prepared to be outside for about 90 minutes.
Yeah. But why do they smell like burned rubber?

I just got back from there, but I didn't do the guided trip, and used the website you posted to get all of my maps. If you are interested in doing it I suggest it, I enjoyed it. We did the Empire Bluff, Pyramid Point, and Alligator Hill trails. I was a little concerned I wouldn't have as much fun as I used to in the UP, but I ended up having a good time. We were also able to do a little off trail snow shoeing at all three locations, which is more fun than being on the trail IMO. Either way we enjoyed it.

I've always thought that it would be cool to snowshoe at the dunes... Maybe this will be a good weekend getaway this winter.
