Default TJ Build thread, 35's on 2.5in of lift *updated Apr 4*

Heres the story. I bought a 2001 TJ about 2 years ago. It was a salvage jeep, picked it up from Daveys jeeps. PAid 4 grand for it. Had 50000 miles on it. Its a sport so it has the dana 44 option, nv3550 and ran like a top. IT was hit drivers front, hard enough to bend the front axle, frame, messed up the sheet metal pretty good. I put a hp dana 30 out of a cherokee in it, had the frame straightened, and just pounded the sheet metal to make it look decent. the fender on the pass side was still kind of bend up, so it wore a rip in the pass hood latch. I drove around for about a year with a tie down holding the hood down.

I already had 31's from a yj i sold, so i decided to get a 2.5in rough country lift to give some more clearance. I wanted to run bigger tires but didn't want to buy another lift and just have the rough country go to waste. I started reading about the DIY Highline, and decided thats the way to go. The hood and fenders were already ugly, so how bad could i screw it up right? I figured i would want 35's, and didn't want to put the strain on the dana 30. Ended up with a dana 44 out of a 77 F-150 and had it built for me while i was on deployment to Iraq.

I currently have the front done. This was my first time ever doing any body mods on anything, so cut me some slack. I think i did pretty good.

Pics are coming up

Wait, nevermind. I saw it before you edited it. Now it makes sense. The TJ looks pretty good.

HAd to get creative with the battery tray to keep the mounting location from going into the heater

Battery bracket making it fit

Look close and you can see where the battery tray mounts to the firewall

My favorite booty fab mod, Stock airbox wouldn't fit. plan to make a snorkel at some point so didn't want to spend money on a air intake. Yes that is PVC. Seems to work good.

Custom, You knwo you want one

Pass side

Hood with trim

Shield for intake

At this point i just got the jeep back, had 4.56's and spool put in rear. It was like a hot rod with 31's and 4.56's. good thing the shop is only 2 miles away. I pulled it in the garage, had the 31's sold so i needed to get started on the front axle swap. Needed to get those 35's on there

I hate Torx, easier jsut to cut them.

Dana 30 gone

Dana 44 ready

First look 35's

Drivers side

one more

My son wanted to show me how its done

As of right now i like it a lot. I still have to cut the rears. I plan on doing that today some time. The spool is a little getting used to, But its gonna be great. The front axle has a aussie locker in it. If i get the rears cut i might get her a little dirty tomorrow and see how it does.

I am just goign to raise the rear flares enough to even them up with the fronts. I tried to check my flex and my jack wouldn't go high enough. I drove in my ditch a little, it looks like i should be ok clearance wise. I want to do long arms in the future. I will probably never add to the lift. Maybe some budget boosts on top of the coils. I think it looks good, and the center of gravity is still low. That was the idea. I don't really like the tube look. It might grow on me though, if i decide to go that way.

Looks great how did you get it home from Davey's, was it driveable? I have looked at parts there but thought it was too far away to go get them? Then again other than the yard near Grand Valley I dint seen to see many jeeps in any salvage yards around here.
