Default What a difference a year makes...

at this time last year..on this date because I remember it pretty well....

Dec. 1st of last year I got laid off, lost medical insurance instantly, (family of 4) was in severe back pain and had been since middle of Nov. still had not gotten any un-employment because of some error, and was seriously considering moving away to work and send money back because this is my home I have built..and because I like it here. My kids are excelling at school beyond my expectations (which are quite high) and suddenly up-rooting them is almost not an option to me.

Not much money
No Job
In pain

just trying to keep a positive outlook and having a real hard time doing it. I work hard, don't bitch, and have always lived trying to look at the glass 1/2 full. Don't ask for much except what I have earned.

I remember telling myself: "just hang on, it will come back around." Not often do I doubt those kind of thoughts, but last year I did. I hated the thought of what could be on Dec. 23 2009....

Got called back April 1st. Took less pay, got no insurance, no 401k and no promise outside of that week worth of work.

Working hard doing my thing, guys at the shop doing the same...

As of today exactly 1 year later:
Back to full pay
got a Xmas bonus in cash
got 5.5% of 2009 income added to 401k
Got medical insurance (not free anymore..but that is typical nowadays)
Have workload that is long..enough to hire 2 new people.

Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus.

I know that not many can be as fortunate as me this year, and to you I say Merry Christmas and Happy New year. Keep your chin up and just keep doing your thing...it will come back around.

A very Merry Christmas to all my friends that offered kind words and deeds while my outlook was bleak.

This is nice to hear. I have friends and ex colleagues that have just about lost everything. On a brighter note this has been my best year financially. Even bought a house in October. I have sacrificed alot doing it thou. I'm only home 3 to 4 days a month, sometimes longer. Right now this is what I have to do and everyone understands.

I took my engineers to lunch today and we were discussing the same thing. Last year we had some layoffs, we lost our 401K match and everyone was worried what the future would bring. In June we landed the largest job the company has ever had. People have been called back, bonus's were nice and everybody's working their arse off.

Life's definitely better for us this year.

Feels good doesn't it? Congratulations!!

Ten months of unemployment, followed by 4 months of part time (with no supplemental unemployment insurance.) and finally full time this past October. Yay!

Everything gets better so long as we keep our chins up and keep off our fat asses.....(no offense Tim)

I always under the impression life is good so long as we wake up every morning

Life is good because the alternative sucks.

Really, a positive attitude makes all the difference. Ever been around one of those 'pity me' types? A real drag to listen to. Eventually, everyone stops listening.

A big to you for hanging in there!
