Default Chevy 6.0 upgrades

what are some of the best bang for your buck upgrades for the 6.0? lots of things can be done to the 6.0 most of them are pretty pricey. my 2500HD needs more low end torque specifically and i'd like to do some upgrades that will make a difference in power and torque from 1500 rpm to 3500 rpm. stock specs are 300 HP@4400 rpm and 360 ft-lbs@4000 rpm. i hardly rev it past 3000 and i don't intend on it either.

There is a few companies that made super charger kits for them. they catered to the H2 market. you might find one of those kits cheap if you look around a bit.

You could try a different cam and mill the heads a little bit to up the compression. You might want to look into a gear ratio change as well, wont give you more torque but it will put it where you need it.

New cam would get you some more low end. You would need to flash the PCM with a new tune for that cam though. If your budget allows look at heads too.

What trans?
Gear ratio?

A change in gear ratio would probably be the best bang for the buck if you can do it yourself.

Or get a d-max.

Like I said, if he can do it himself. I have done quit a few and there not that bad.

If he has to pay to have it done probably not the best move.

i'm looking at budget friendly upgrades. like under $1500. truck is an 06 2500HD it has the NV4500 and 4.10 gears. the gearing is actually too low for my liking. i'm at 2500 rpm on the highway at 70 mph. i'm looking at getting new exhaust but not sure whats worth buying. would like a bolt on system if at all possible. example. i bought edelbrock headers with y pipe, and flowmaster cat back for my camaro and it cost 800 bucks. i gained 4 MPG avg, and netted a 15 HP gain. all the systems for my truck are 1000 and up for half of it. i'm also considering a programmer but there doesn't seem to be one for my application, and i'm not keen on getting one that doesn't work. i also thought about putting a bigger cam in but those usually will make fuel mileage worse and lose more low end driveability.

Try and stay away from programmers. They're usually a ripoff unless your running a diesel. You should look into a cam from Comp Cams. You could definitely get a cam and the PCM flashed for $1500. As far as loss of mileage, the cause is usually lead foot. With the right cam your low end could improve a lot and you could see better mileage if you get a good PCM tune.

I have a 6.0 in my 02' 2500HD and I paid a local guy to tune the computer, I think it cost me 200.00. The tune made a night and day difference throughout the rpm range, and my fuel economy probably increased 1 mpg. A good tune is well worth the money.

I think car insurance and food would be the biggest bang for your buck.

ls1truck.com Ask for Melissa. She will help you out. free reprograms for life for computer tuning just pay shipping. No down time. Take out the torque management, set it up for premium. get it setup to get rid of the rear o2 sensors and cut out the cats and set it up for premium. Does leaps and bounds over a regular programer. With the free re-tunes you can put a supercharger on it later or cam...etc and the will reprogram it for the price of shipping. next best thing to dyno time. Will really help that 6.0 out. The main reason they feel gutless is cause of the torque management.
