Default Best "carry" pocket knife?

I need to get my dad a carry knife, since his was stolen..

I have never carried a knife, so I don't know what length is proper. Is 8" too long for the pocket?

How about these?

Benchmade Griptillian

CRKT Triumph

I think that would be a little big... also isn't 3" blade the largest you can legally carry concealed?

I carry the same one but in green... Hard to go wrong with a Kershaw, especially with the assisted opening feature. I'm not 100% sure on the length of blade law, but that's what i have always been told... Unless your dad is some type of urban ninja warrior a smaller 3" blade pocket knife would probably be a better option...

I just picked up one of these. It was a little less than $130. I got it at a tactical store just outside of a military base. When I was talking to the guy that worked there, he said to stay away from CRKT knives because the material that the blades are made out of rust rather quickly. The Benchmade knives come with a limited lifetime warranty, which is pretty nice.

I'll second the Kershaw knives...I've got two of them that are "assisted open" (think switchblade). I carry them on duty and they are high quality and stay very sharp. I also have a Spyderco Endura knife that I like an awful lot.

5. Is it illegal to have a knife with a blade over 3 inches in my possession?

MCL 750.226 No. Michigan law specifies that a person, with intent to use the knife unlawfully against another, shall not go armed with a knife having a blade over 3 inches in length.

Hondadirtracer is correct. It is not illegal...until you have INTENT to use it in an illegal manner or activity.

Also, check www.steepandcheap.com or Steep and Cheap's parent site, www.backcountry.com for killer deals on Kershaw and other knives. They don't always have them in stock (they are a clearance house website) but when they do the prices are great.

Ken Onion is Kershaw's primary designer. That knife is called the Blur. Check eBay also...I got one of my Kershaws for under $35. Buy-It-Now. It retailed over $100.

I've carried this knife on me for almost 2 years.

Sharp as hell and has a window punch on the end.

I highly recommend it.

Iv had a couple of these, and they are worthless. Shitty steel thats hard to sharpen, and wont hold an edge.

Kelly, Ive been carrying a Spyderco Delica 4 for a few weeks now, and I cant complain. The Benchmade Mini Grip is a great knife from everything I have heard.
