Can't you just run stacks out the top?

Exhaust is supposed to exit behind us, but the awesomeness of zoomies should allow for a pass on the rules.

Found out when we got down there that the one other Mod class wasn't going to run. There were 5 unlimited cars running so we decide to bump up a class.

I will add more later but we finished 3rd. Time for breakfast.

So Craig beat a car in a lower class? Awesome. Nice job 4517.

Radiator was a bit dirty, but it kept cool the entire race.

It was a good weekend for racing. We went down to the ECORS race not sure how many other Mod cars would show, but wanted to get in some seat time before the next Ultra4 race in September. It has not been a good season for us for finishing races and we wanted to turn that around. When we checked in on Saturday morning, we found out that there was another B-class (Modified) signed up but by mid-day they had backed out with mechanical issues; so we were the only car in the class. After the driver's meeting we decided to bump up to C-class (unlimited) and race in a class of 6 instead of 1. Our goal was to have a clean race and finish and then see where that took us.

We pre-ran the course on Saturday morning and mapped it on the GPS. It was a mix of the old long TREC course, and part of this year's Ultra4 race and qualifying courses. It was long, one of the competitors said it was 12 miles on their GPS. The rocks were some ledges that were fun to climb. The bowl section was also in play, but thankfully the logs had been removed and replaced with a serpentine that would prove to be a blast in the mud. The rock section and frame twister sections from the Ultra4 race were still there.

It rained Saturday morning, and there were reports it would rain Saturday; but before I left home it claimed it would hold off until 10pm. The race was scheduled to start at 7:30pm and run for 5 laps with a 3 hour time out. Not surprisingly, the weather report was wrong.

As we sat at the start line it started raining a bit. By the time they waved the green it was a down pour. And then it really started raining... big drops in sheets. I have never raced in rain line this. Jesse adjusted his visor so he could see only the GPS and keep the rain and mud out of his eyes. He started calling out turns, and I was just trying to keep us on course. It was bad for the first few minutes until we got into the heavy woods where the trees protected us.

By the time we got out of the second wooded section it had stopped, but now the course was soaked like it was for Ultra4. When we got to the quarry I ran the first few ledges clean, but couldn't one shot the tough ledge getting out. By then the top 2 stock class were battling and right behind us, so I let them through to not screw up their race. When I tried it the second time it was no problem. We raced back to the bowl and then got stuck in the muddy rock section trying to pass the A-class car that got in front of us at the quarry. When we finally pushed through we got to the finish line to find that the race had been temporarily called due to a tornado warning.

After that passed, it was agreed to continue the race and we would be released from start/finish in the order we came and by the time behind leader. We completed our 4 remaining laps and never caught any of the racers in front of us. Uknown to us, we had gotten in front of Jon Terhune while he was in the pits. By our 5th lap we were taking it easy just trying to get the car in when he passed us. We tried catching up to him, but decided it was better to finish the lap than wreck trying to chase him down. At that time we didn't realize we were racing for 2nd.

Overall, it was a great race for us. We bumped up a class and kept the car alive and finished 3rd. We only stopped in the pits to get our lights cleaned off. The car drove on the trailer and I spent a few hours power washing it and see no major issues.

Next item is for us to bump up the stall on our torque converter to hopefully fix some stall issues and be able to hold the jeep back at low speed in low range and prevent some stalling. We need to find a little room between the shifter and the new slightly bigger driveshaft, as well as the skid plate. On a few bumps it shifted us from 2nd to 1st gear and we have some marks on the driveshaft from rubbing.

We will finish cleaning and be ready for some wheeling on August 9th and the next Ultra4 race on September 13th in Sturgis, Kentucky.

Great report John. Glad you did well.

By the way, you will need Super Traps on your exhaust for August 9th.

Ok, I will talk with Mike to see what part he used to get into Silver Lake. I know he bought just part of the system.
