Its not just the actual race that we go down for. We usually end up prerunning most of a day( rec wheeling) friday then we qualify on Friday afternoon and then race on saturday. thats 2 full days of wheeling unless something breaks, and then you still have sunday to go out wheeling. Plus we always camp and pit with the large group of friends we have made. there is always something to eat fresh of a smoker or grill or a nice cold beer to drink.

Its a whole weekend experience away from home not just a 5 hour race. I have made alot of great friends through racing. Even if i wasn't racing racing i would venture down on the race weekends to hang out and wheel.

I agree with what Hoser said. Although we were coming home with results less than our expectations, it was still a good time. I ran a park I've never run before, watched some awesome qualifying, racing, and rock bouncing and hung out with friends I haven't seen since Hammers.

Since we started racing, I have been getting out more often than the past few years of when I was trail wheeling. With a mod class rig, we can and do take it out for rec wheeling when time permits. I still drive it to the corner store for a pop when the weather is nice, and can drive it to work.

I hope to call PSC, Howe, and Lee and get an idea of what they have and prices in the next few days. It seems some people say 2" ram and big bore box works great, others say 1.5" ram and small bore box is better for fast steering. The one common thing is that everybody thinks somebody else's setup is junk. It's a matter of talking with the "experts" and seeing which setup makes the most sense for what we are doing.

Initial investigation shows that Lee and Howe do mostly high speed stuff. Our big concern is not ending up with a powerful yet laggy setup. I don't want to spend a bunch of time and money trying to get the "right" setup by buying tons of parts I don't need.

You've wheeled a bunch without a ram at all so I don't know why you'd even look at a 2" ram. You know how cylinder volume works, why add additional burden to the already low gpm from the pump?

I am running a 2" x8 single end ram in full hydro configuration and it seems to be plenty. I'm betting it would be way overkill for assist and 37's as far as turning power goes.

Exactly my thought on ram size. When I had full hydro I ran a 2*8 ram.

Smaller bore = quicker response time. You aren't trying to transfer the steering load to a cylinder but rather take some of the load off of the mechanical box while still having a mechanical "feel".

I hope I'm not implying you should quit racing but rather that I feel your pain and realize it's not for me. Maybe you should stop writing such gloomy reports. Not only that, if you quit racing I will lose my free ride to KOH next year and I don't want that to happen.

I guess you could look at it that you get a free seat in the truck, but the spot on the trailer is what will cost you...

Free in the truck and space on the trailer = half price. And, as long as I don't need to cover your repair bill on the race rig I am pretty much safe.

I fucking love dairy queen.

not ragging on you superstars of motorsports. just asking why nobody showed up to race the mod class accept a couple guys that drove like 14 hours from Michigan. seems a lil fawked up. great to see so many show up for unlimited class though.

if your gonna be a racer, spend like one. ill be at D.Q. and grooving 31" tires to win the hardest race ever.
