Silly 35s? I'm hurt. Those could have been driven by a famous short course race car driver person. By real tires did you mean the spare tire challenge rolling stock?

I will try and get some good action photos of the brake switch on the lake bed. If I see Robby Gordon I will ask him to pose with my brake switch.

edit: Dang, forgot to add that JeepM715 and WhiteRhino finished loading up the jeeps on the trailer last night just as I arrived with the pizza. They managed to squeeze all 3 of our rigs on JeepM715's goose neck trailer, so we are good to go. Just add luggage and 3 fat guys and we are good to go on Friday.

NO WAY i give mad props to JohnnyJ for bringing the spare tire challenge effect to the big show. JohnnyJ knows you dont need big tires to get the job done..... Give em' hell.

Plus, we are limited to 37s in mod class. And $100 per tire 35s fit the budget better than $400 per tire 37s.

The budget isn't there right now to have a set of 39 stickies for play.

thats why the pivot will be gone in a matter of a few races. It would last you 5 or 6 years.

Have you found something better? It'll be there until it wears out and then some, but it'd be good to know what would work better.

lol, mine is just wobbly as all hell, the set screw used to come loose all the time, so that is permanantly fixed in place. i need to re-do my entire throttle system. The next pedal will be fabricated, doube shear, no bushing in the pivot...

Weld it WFO and use the ignition switch to slow down.

If it was drive by wire, I would have hooked it up so that the brake switch was the go/no-go pedal and try to be a 1%er. But we have the pesky throttle cable.

Got back from the trip out to King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley, California today. We wheeled Sunday through Wednesday and then watched the races on Thursday and Friday.

The jeep did pretty good but did manage to shit some parts over the week. Sunday afternoon I bent the front axle upper control arm bracket. Luckily we caught it Monday morning and took it over to the Ruff Stuff tent and they added some metal to it and it held for the rest of the week.

Monday the alternator started making noise about half way up Spooners and was toast as we cleared the top of the trail. White Rhino towed me back to camp so we wouldn't throw the serpentine belt and cause more problems. Again luck was on our side and the local car quest had a 145 amp upgrade and belt in stock which we installed Tuesday morning.

Tuesday we ran Outer Limits and made good progress until I was coming off a big ledge and bound up the steering and stripped the splines off the pitman arm. White Rhino provided the ready welder and JeepM715 welded it all together and it held up for the rest of the week.

The jeep had a stalling issue all day Tuesday that was annoying. On Wednesday we nut and bolted the car with the help of roger and scanned for codes and found a TPS code. We must have bumped the sensor loose while swapping alternators. We plugged in the sensor and it ran great again.

Wednesday the jeep ran great all day. We took it out on the dry lake bed and did a few passes and a few drag races. Everything was smooth and the engine makes great power.

Now it's just getting the bumps on, a new pitman arm and steering box, and getting it ready to pass safety inspection for the March TREC race.

Here's a video form the gopro coming down Outer Limits

Sounds like a successful shakedown trip to me! How fast did you get it up to on the lakebed?

No idea. I won the drag race against JeepM715 and White Rhino. That's what really matters.

Hit it hard in 3rd and rolled easy in 4th. 6.0/4l60e/atlas with 5.13 gears with the awesome 35s. Tach is also non functional for some reason, so no easy to back calc a speed.

For some dumb reason I didn't grab the GPS on Wednesday morning since White Rhino has one loaded with topos and trails. So no idea on speed but it was limited by our safety devices of sand goggles and a bandana.

That thing should rip with that engine, gearing, and only 35s on it. I know what you mean about the safety devices. I wore my motocross helmet and goggles the first day and my streetbike helmet with shield the second day. Whole new kinda wheelin' out there.

I was just curious what other people were getting for top speed, or if they even tried. I know some of the $$$$ rigs that are pushing 600+HP will barely top 120 MPH if the driver has the balls to hold it. I had to try, even though its pretty dangerous. 90.0 was all she had at the end of the back lakebed. I think these big, heavy Trepadors didn't help much. I was told that it would hit close to 100 with nearly bald Krawlers on it.

Never thought I would ever be saying I drove 90 MPH in a rock crawler across a dried up lake bed in the middle of the desert in California.
