Default Michigan's Helmet law Repub vs. Dems

Granholm veto'd the helmet law repeal for Motorcycles. DeVos says he will pass it if he becomes Governator.

What this means in plain terms.

Granholm: I support the Pro-Choice movement to kill babies but once you're born you are under my control!

DeVos: All babies deserve the right to live, once you are an adult you can kill yourself if you wanted to die when you were a fetus.

DeVos' new slogan should be "I'm not your mother"

He just won my vote because of the helmet issue. No comment on the other thing. That's a very different battle. I ride...I don't give birth.

I think it should be a rider's choice if he/she wants to wear a helmet or not, unless of course there is a child on the motorcycle. This helmet law goes hand in hand with the seatbelt law. I'm assuming it has to do with insurance rates overall compared to anything else.

I was an ABATE member for a few years. I'm sure I'll get back in when i have more time. They frequently perform organized civil disobedience to try and draw tickets in different Districts in order to force rulings. On the ABATE site you can probably find a listing of all the judges in your Region that throw out Helmet Tickets, which basically allows you to ride helmet-free in their area without fear of the cops harassing you.

Why should there be any difference whether its a child or not?

I wouldn't want to bet on the cops not harassing you. I know a few who will give you the ticket anyway. They figure they get paid to go to court, you have to take a vacation day, or a day off to go. Either way, it costs you more than them. And most likely, they will be in court that day anyway, so no big deal.

To me, it is not worth the time and money to ride without one and go to court. Rather just continue to wear my beanie helmet, and not get stopped. Since I ride about 60 to 100 miles a day (average), 6 days a week, 10 months of the year, in 2 counties, thru about 9 city juristictions, I'll pass on remembering who might not hassle me.

Easiest thing to do is vote the bitch out. Elect someone who doesn't belong to the insurance industry and try again.

I guess it'll be interesting to see DeVos reply to a question addressing his support of adult choice, but not female choice.

What about the baby's choice? The female choice should be to either not fukc or use birth control. And DeVos is all for that choice.

Whatever. I didn't say I cared about it. I just want to see him put on the spot.

I read somewhere that he stated he was Pro-Life.

And knowing him and the people he hung with several years ago, I would say that is the truth. I have had dinner with the man several times when I worked for Mazda Great Lakes in Grand Rapids. The company was owned by Peter Cook. The Cook's, DeVos' and the Renucci's were very active in the community and I work on several projects with them.
