Default 1978 CJ7 Build (Pics added 2-5-12)

Well my buddy from work says I need a build thread for my project. We Bought a 1979 CJ7 and are working on making it trail ready. Here is some info on the Jeep.

AMC 304 (comp cam, mallory ignition, holley truck avenger carb)
AMC Turbo 400
Superlift Super ride 4" Lift
New Copper STT 35's
Fiberglass Tub, Hood, and Fenders

Here it is on the trailer coming back from Indy where we bought it

Once we got it home, we enjoyed the jeep as is the remainder of the summer.

The whole job started buy installing a soft top and doors the previous owner never had doors of a top for it (only used in summer) and he mounted the seats to far out, so i need to remove the seats and figured since I did that I would pull the carpet out and bedliner the inside. well to do that I need to do some fiberglass work. And to do fiberglass work right you have to glass both side so That meant pulling the tub off. I also wanted to make a nice flat spot in the tub for a center console and the twin sticks. Typical snowball effect with any project.

Once I had the body off I figured it was a good time to fix some spots on the frame, which then turned into fixing the frame, sanding and painting the whole frame as well, pulled the motor, fuel tank, and brake lines, etc.

I got started working on the front and rear bumpers this weekend, here are some pics of the front bumper, not done with it yet need to still get some tube bent to protect the winch, and still need to get my d-ring tabs made and welded on. I painted the frame with Black chassis saver paint.

I have started on the rear bumper and will post pics soon. Will have rear tire swing out carrier, gas can, highlift jack etc. projects still to do are new brake lines, new tie rod ends, weld up a new skid plate for 20 gallon poly tank, raptor u-pol the bottom of the tub and the interior of the tub.

Here are some new pics from the work today. Rear bumper still need to do the d-ring tabs on the front and rear, also did the bottom of the tub in the raptor upol to get a feel for it before I flip it over and do the interior.

Well been busy time to update the pics of my progress. Got the old motor apart, previous owner said it had been recently rebuilt, still had the cross hatching in the cylinders even, so I just put all new gaskets in it and painted it AMC blue, worked on the rear bumper some as well got the tire carrier started and the new 3/16' skid plate for the 20 gallon poly tank, also got the tub flipped over and sprayed the Raptor Upol on the interior.

Thats all for now, I will get some more of the bumpers and the gas tanks skid plate once I get them finished up this weekend.

Love it very even texture and not rough like the roll on stuff. and very easy to spray. the texture is pretty similar to rhino and line-x, but where it falls short of those is the thickness, this is a 1 gallon kit and rhino and linex use somewere in the 5-6 gallon range for truck beds, but then again our interior won't see the same abuse as a truck bed will. I highly recommend the raptor liner looks great, there is a tintable version as well, search jeepforum and you can see some greens and reds people have done.
