Reddy heater problem.

I just picked up a reddy heater Pro 100 off of CL for $40. It's propane.

I hold the button down for 30 seconds to start it, but when I let go it wont stay lit. I see a spark from the electrode when I let off.

what am I looking for? I'm thinking the thermocouple, but I'm not sure.

does it go out if you hold it in and quickly turn it to high?

i havent used mine yet this year but i think i have to do something like that with mine or it goes out.
also if your using a little grille propane tank ive found that if it gets to 1/4 of the tank left it wont keep it running.

It goes out the second I let go of the button. It won't let me turn it to high without letting go of the button.

I'm leaning toward it being the thermocouple. I'm going to go tear it apart.

try holding down for a little longer but it sounds like the tcouple is bad. I have a reddy and it only takes about 10s of holding it down to keep it lit.

If not the tcoupler the propane orifice is clogged with a spider web.

Consider it a tribute to Fatty Matty rather than a play...

I figured it out, three years later.

It would always work great if the tank was warm, as in not freezing cold. Last winter the hose got cut so I went to the local welding supply/propane joint the other day to get a new one made. I was telling the counter guy about how the thing didn't like to work with a cold tank, he said..."You must be using a 20# tank, they won't work for the bigger heaters, 40# is the minimum".

So....I bought a 40# tank. It works flawlessly at any temp now.

Ours states it needs a 100# tank... the heater isn't even that big. Needless to say I have not bought a tank.
