With cold coming I want to move all the shit out of my garage so I dont have to do any wrenching in a snow/ ice covered driveway. I really need a pole barn, but my house is in a subdivision on 1/3 acre:fish: so I'd really like to find a cheep kit/ pre fabed unit I can throw together quickly. Anyone do some shoping for these lately?
I bought a 10x12 kit a few years back from Menards that wasn't to bad to put together and wasn't too expensive - they were cheaper than alot of places. My only advice is to get the biggest one you can afford. 10x12 was barely enough for me and if were to do it again, I'd build at least a 12x12 and try to do a 2 story one.
I found that getting a kit from a lumber store got me a bigger shed for less money. The only draw back was that you have to actually build it. If I remember correctly, the one we built is 10x12 with 8' walls, 2x4 construction, trusses, exterior grade entry door, built on a deck type floor, cost around 1500 or so.
I have never seen a shed kit that I couldn't build cheaper buying the stuff separate. Your pretty much paying to have everything pre-cut. Of course those are probably designed to meet most codes, and I would build a pole building.
This is what replaced my Harbor Freight portable garage for now. The city won't let me build a garage, and I figure if I got away with that ugly ass HF one, this one is a lot better looking then that. Should store the flatty well. Just have to clean up the shit on the left side.
I saw that^^ but it needs to be somewhat secure. The city and subdivision will allow so much as another 2 car garage behind the house, but I'm not dumping that much money on this house.
Check current codes. I asked back 4 years ago about a shed when I was submitting for a garage permit. So, I built my shed per codes 4 years ago, not thinking it would change....just got a notice that I need a permit now and I have to put in a foundation for my 8x10 shed. Yay. Four years ago it stated that under 100sqft I didn't need a permit or if I built it in a non permanent fashion i.e. on patio bricks or pavers on the ground (like my 2 other sheds were built I tore down 4 years ago).
Apparently the guy at the township offices said that even the plastic **** Depot ones need permits now. Every shed over 10sqft needs a 2' ratwall in my area. The guy behind the counter told a story about some guy building a 20x40 garage with wheels on it so he could pull it around his yard with his lawn tractor!!! So they changed the codes.
Ha, this sounds like a fun one for me to check out. What's the township? That's some pretty ridiculous shit on their part to try to bring every shed into compliance with a new ordinance, especially something that small. Did you ask him for a copy of the ordinance?
