yes unless there is a legal contract. if its for mechanical work you did just cut your losses and do not do bussiness with again. since im guessing you are state cert and working out of your garage.

Put the old intake and cam sensor back on, and give the car back. Maybe find a ecm wire in a hard to reach place on the harness and "clip".

did you clean their carpets and now have there carpet cleaner in your procession?

You got screwed unless you have a contract or something saying you have their property as your colleratal for services rendered.

Not sure of laws but what about putting a mechanics lean on the property.I've heard of that being done which says that they cannot retrieve their property until said bill is paid.

I had a customer try to get away with not paying for a screen repair one time. He told me there was nothing that could make him pay. I took out my knife, cut a big hole in the screen I just fixed, and told him to have a nice day. Cost of the screen was probably $3.00, plus labor, but the feeling was EXCELLENT!

x2 on snipping a wire. No contract, prove you ever did work on the car!

I know a couple people who have put a lien on a vehicle they worked on without working in an actual shop. Thats about all I can say about it though.

Hmm.. Well, I thought having a mechanics lien effected their credit, but I guess they won't unless you take it to court.

I dunno, wish I could help. I hate people like this.

You can put a lien on it, but only if you are a state licensed shop. Being a licensed mechanic does not give you the right to put a lien on it. There are also some other requirements, such as sending a dated bill certified mail and giving them so many days, but you can only hold their property if they have not paid and you have a business and state license.

cut your losses if it was side work and not under a company name...much cheaper then the bill you will get from the IRS...

Welcome to bottom feeding customers! When you offer the cheapest work, these are the customers you will get.

Seriously, just undo whatever you did to the cart and push it out into the street. Call the lady up and tell her to get her trash out of the road.

I am sure that gocart does not have a title or vin number to prove she owns it...sell it on craigslist and call it a day. When the cops come and ask about her cart say (WHAT GO CART?)...bring it to my house I will sell it and we split the money!!!

I hate to say I have seen this many time. we used to switch the plug & coil wires on peoples cars so if they came during the night they would crank till it was dead..they always thought that one cylinder they heard popppng would take off and run any second!

I suggest a dead mouse in the heater box..Thats a smell that goes for months!
