Default 1996 Ford bronco questions

I came across a decent bronco today, test drove it, i'm interested in buying it, it has a solid body, It has the 302, 5spd manual trans, manual locking hubs, 33'' tires....good glass...doesn't smoke tick or leak anything. The guy bought some foreign gas sipping POS, and is now selling his beast. These newer bronco's, how are they on gas? Pretty reliable? How does the 5spd hold up with the 4x4? Is the 5spd worth taking offroad? The net says they get 14-16 MPG...............anybody ever got any better? Thanks

yes

its gets 14 or so. yes the 5 speed is nice offroad and it will hold up to the 4x4.

the question is

can you drive a stick offroad?
put a better clutch in it cause im guessing it will be burnt if you wheel it.

A 5 speed will do better on gas than the auto. If on the off chance you do burn the tranny out, you can upgrade it to a ZF5 which is nearly bulletproof. My wife and I had an F150 that was a 5 speed and had 33's on it and it did fine offroad and in the mud.

It should do better than 13-14. Its a '96, so its mass air. That 5-speed is great for mileage, too. I had a '95 F-150, with the same set-up but speed density, and got close to 20mpg.

stock engine gets around that 14-16 range. Mine does with a 5.8L, over on FSB there are threads galore on Bumping the timing . . .mass air filters . . better exhausts for even more mpg . . . 18-20 I believe but I havent read much about that topic in the last year. I have been studying up on the straight axle swap and 8 lug outers. The tranny will hold fine for average wheeling . .the weak link above 35's is going to be the front end

agree with above, good intake system, good exhaust, good tune up(with quality plugs, wires, cap/rotor) and you should be getting 16-18. fulllsizebronco.com will be your best friend with this truck.
