s10 ignition switch issue

its a 95 s10, with a column shifter.

in the column there is a plastic *gear* that rotates with the key, and has a tab that sits in the ignition switch to turn it.

My issue is, that tab is broken. does anyone have any idea on how to fix it, or do i need a new column?

using a key to unlock the column, and a screwdriver to start the truck is getting old

you should be able to just buy the gear at the dealer. I used to rebuild them all the time. lots of stolen recovery stuff

ok thanks. thats what happened with this, it was stolen a few years ago, and the previous owner just left the ignition switch hanging out, and starting it with a screw driver. lol

Hey, I know this is an old thread but this is the exact problem I'm dealing with right now. Even with a 95 S10 also. Just wondering if any of you by chance have the part number of the plastic gear with the broken tab. The parts guys at my local gm dealership showed me a parts breakdown of the steering column but it didn't include the plastic gear. They thought it must be included with another part in the steering column.
