Default BluRay (Laser Disk of the Millenium?)

Have these caught on yet? I just like to rent movies On Demand. I could not tell you the last time I was in a Video Store.

Haha. Bluray is awesome. I especially like to watch Planet Earth. HD rocks.

I've already stated in other threads that I think its lifetime will be shorter than DVD. You can already get HD streaming movies pretty easily, or use ondemand through your TV provider. Or just download (legally if movie studios smarten up, illegally if they don't).

11 billion Blu Ray disk have been sold so far. I can't really see it going away any time soon. There are lots of people who like to actually own a movie so they can watch it over and over again. With On Demand you can't do that. I really like watching stuff in HD, while my wife could care less because she can't see good enough to tell the difference. I have yet to buy a Blu ray player tho and don't plan on it anytime soon.

Bluray FTW here. There is a definite difference between Ondemand and an actual disc IMO.

I agree with you 100%. The Ondemand HD in 720 is poop in comparison to Bluray 1080.

The thing is there are so few movies worth buying in BluRay I have no interest right now. The last two movies I can think of that would be worthy of BluRay are The Dark Knight and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

I mean who's gonna buy, or rent for that matter, a shitty movie like Paul Blart Mall Cop in HD without wanting to puke?

Comcast OnDemand was always pretty damn good for me. AT&T doesn't have much HD content, so I'm not sure about them.

You're NOT going to notice a huge difference between 720p and 1080p, if any (need we bring out the viewing distance, TV size, and quality chart again?). Even on large TVs, at distances where you will notice the (very slight) difference, does it really matter THAT much? Do you watch broadcast TV and say "oh damn, that's shitty quality, it's only 720p"?

The only issue w/ some of the ondemand is artifacting, and that's NOT a 720P vs. 1080P issue, that's a shitty video encoding.

I have a blueray player that i got a while ago and its not just the picture but the sound seems to have so many more layers also. I think that people will always buy blueray discs cause they like having a nice collection of stuff to watch when your lazy and dont want to do anything.

And yours is one negative opinion because sony somehow butthert you (IMHO, but I could be totally off).

We have both Planet earth series - DVD and Bluray - and the blueray kicks total ass. Even at 10' away from a 50" plasma.

The upconverted DVD was good, but didn't compare. We just gave the DVD series away to a friend.

Picture and sound are phenomenal on a blueray disk. This is coming from someone who just got a PS3 and watched my first blueray movie last week. All I can say is, what a difference.

Yes to all of your questions there. For my tv size and distance there is a definite difference in signals.

Blueray has a very nice pic, but if you try to rent one from family video you might
need a loan its like $5 a disk.
