Default My dad just bought a Heavy Half

My dad just called to tell me he bought is first 4x4. It's a 1989 GMC "Heavy Half" with a plow for $900.

I wasn't familiar with a "Heavy Half" it's a 1/2 ton truck, with 3/4 ton gear under it? Does anyone have any specs for these trucks? As far as he knows it's stock.

It's just a 1/2 ton with the 'High GVWR Package'. Probably has the six lug semi-float 14 bolt, not sure what else if anything.

1st post should have been in Chevy Tech.

As stated, it will most likely have a 6-lug 14bSF. Good axle.

only real difference between a heavy half and a half-ton is the 14 bolt semi-float rear axle

Thank God you were talking about a truck. When I read the title I thought maybe he had bought a russian bride.

I think they also have an extra leaf or two in the spring pack but not as many as a 3/4 ton.

They can but it wasn't standard in a heavy half like the 14 bolt, what it'll have would be the equavilant to an add-a-leaf without any lifting
