Default Child Safety/Booster seat help

I really suck at searching mi.gov

Is a child's safety seat or booster req'd to have a shoulder strap in the back seat? My son is 7 yrs old and all my trucks do not have shoulder straps in the back seat, only lap belts. My understanding was a quality booster seat was enough as it relocates the lap belt to a safe position on the child. But my wife insists that the shoulder strap is the law and is req'd in the back seat for the child. Trying to find proof of either. Requesting help from those more talented (or patient) with that stupid site to help me.

I know the full blown child seat requires the shoulder strap, but my boy is 7 and no longer requires the whole seat set-up, he just uses a booster now.

That is the part of the law that you need to show your wife. You need to use a booster seat that works in your truck. Because it was built with only lap belts, it is legal. You are right.

Sorry I missed that withen your question. trucks/cars made with a certain kind of belt are not required by law to be updated or retrofitted to current standards. secondly trucks built before 2000 don't meet the current standards for crash safety.

I use the booster with the lap belt in my truck. I read the manual on the seat, it is only for use in a seat with a shoulder belt. One way around this is to install a 5 point racing harnes for that seat in your truck, a bit overkill, but mama should be happy with that.
