Default Jeep Commander ,My first 1500 Miles

I am very impressed with this New Jeep i bought in Oct. of this year.

Special ordered Hemi/ Quadra drive II and all the toys but Two.

No in dash GPS system or silly rear DVD player. But i did add the skid plate group and the class IV Hitch.

First time driving it on the freeway, I was caught behind 3 cars in the fast lane doing 62 MPH. for about 6 miles south bound on US23. When i did get a break in the morning traffic on the right i "hit it" and passed the 3 cars on the right.

When i cleared the 3rd car, I looked at the Speedo........

105 mph.

Driving 78 MPH on the freeway get me about 14 to 14.5 MPG. It would do much better if i let the MDS system work by going 70 or a bit less.

The auto dim headlights and the auto wipers are great, they work very well.
the headlights are the best of any Jeep i have owned (Had a Libby and still have the Rubi) They were aimed to the sky when i got the Commander....I had the dealer Re-aim them and all is good now.

The seat heaters are something i have never had before. On a cold morning there hard to beat.

A friend call me last night, he had drove his car off his driveway and down a hill on the lawn and snow. So i took the commander over and drove down the hill to where his car was. He had tried to drive it out, and made things worse. he had it all the way down the hill and into the brush. Hill was about 6% grade and lawn covered with snow.

I nosed the Jeep down to it (It was a Chevy Aero, small 3000 pound car) And hooked a strap around the rear axle. Backed the Jeep up the hill back on to his driveway. I never spun a wheel. At the top as we unhooked I complemented him on keeping the strap tight as we backed up the hill.

He said that he did not have a chance to get his car in gear and that i towed him up all on my own! The traction control system is unbeleavable.

I'm sure i will find the limits of this Jeep soon enough. But from what i have done so far, I'm very happy to have bought this Jeep.

Mi work has a truck scale, I ran the Commander across with a full tank of gas and my butt in the seat....5,540 Pounds.

No i weigh 225..............LOL

Some may complain that it's IFS and will never be a rock climber. And thats very true. But thats not what it's for...I have the Rubi for that. And the Commander to tow the Rubi to where we want to Wheel.

You can own more than one Jeep........:)

Dave, have you towed the Rubi with it yet? Just curious how it does towing a load of that weight.

Nope.

I don't own a trailer yet.....:)

But i do have plans....LOL

it's rated for 7,200 pounds with the Hemi. so it should be no problem.

I have video and photos from the Hell's Revenge in Moab that would prove you wrong. I was VERY impressed with how it did. Better than the new JK:tonka:.

I'd love to see them.....:)

I'm in South Lyon right now neighbor. (Off Griswold)

I'm staying in the work office trailer during the week.

But I don't think i would be supprised as what it will do. The Quadra drive II System acts just like lockers front and rear when in low range. even the tire slip on dry pavment when locked.

I look forward to finding it's limits someday when it's not so shiney.....:)

I have talked to some of the guys at work who have driven them offroad, the Commander did well as could be expected and the trails they were on were dominated by Modified Cj's and TJ's. the guys doing the climbing there had never seen a stock rig that high up in the hills at Moab from what I am told. they had never seen a full size PowerWagon up there either.
