LOL, don't get me started on engines.

Options I'm seriously considering (because I have most all the parts I need for them):

1. 302 using steel 283 crank in 4-bolt defunct "383" Denny got hosed on;
2. 302 using steel 283 crank in 2 bolt Vortec block. Benefits include extra sensors should I ever go to electronic controls & stock roller cam;
3. 350 - doing a budget rebuild of a Vortec I have;
4. 383 - using the 400 crank inside the vortec block.

I don't really think you need a ton of displacement unless your gonna drive like some crazy ninja. My vote is on the 302, using the vortec block

Any one of your engine choices with a s10 t5 will end up very not good. I've exploded several with a stock 305 2bbl.

Trans coming out through the cab:

Sumbitch weighs about 200#:

Pulling the motor:

Hoisting the cab off of the frame:

Temporary spot for the cab:

Bed off, International Scout II tank to replace the bomb in the cab:

Bed up on end, determining centerline of frame:

Front end is off 1.25" to the passenger side:

Now to see if I can straighten the frame myself, or if I should take it somewhere....

Definitely making great progress. This thread makes me feel guilty about putting my truck in storage for the winter.

Taking tonight off - looking for a replacement frame (estimate $700 to fix this one) - also, designing a rotisserie for the cab so I can work on it, roll it around, & what-not.

Sighting down the frame rails on my current frame...well, that mothascratcher is fawkin bent e'rry which way.

Alro Steel....

Slap down some Benjamin's for some 2x4 box, then add 383

Then you could make yourself a cushy/firm suspension too.

I was thinking about this last night - then I could make the front end a mustang II suspension & R&P steering - really though, how much does that shit run?

You may be able to use an 80's S-Truck front frame section as well, that would likely be easier and cheaper to find. Easier to get V8 swap stuff for as well

S-Truck stuff used to be popular for this sort of thing.

No pictures for this update;

The bare frame is now on the garage floor - I cut off / unbolted the F&R suspensions last night. Did I ever mention how the quality of one's life (in the garage) is directly proportional to the amount of correct tools are on hand for a project?

Not to mention, a fridge full 'o PBR.

I need to call around and start pricing steel today.

Serious question. Why did you buy this basket case instead of heading down by me or father south and picking up something with less cancer?

Funny thing is:

1. - it isn't a basket case, as far as these trucks are concerned;
2. - I'll know everything will be done to my satisfaction;
3. - trying to find a 60-66 Chevy in the condition mine will end up in will cost 2 to 3x as much;
4. - I am beginning to understand the satisfaction of "Built, not bought";
5, - I find that I LOVE doing this kind of stuff.

Serious question, have you ever worked with your hands, of just sell insurance for fun?
